The final two matches of the ICC World Cup League Two tri-series held in the USA are upon us. Both these matches will see Namibia and Papua New Guinea take on each other as USA is finished with all of its games.
Namibia recorded a very heavy victory over USA in its previous match. That match was hit by rain but it still allowed Namibia to flex its batting muscles. Winning against an unbeaten US side would have given Namibia a lot of confidence but they are not likely to take things against PNG easy either.
PNG vs Namibia ODI ICC World Cup League Two is going to be played at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida on the 22nd of September 2019.
Batting has been a major problem for PNG in this series so far. Even when tasked with a small chase of 178 in their previous match, the PNG batting crumbed to be all-out for 115. That is just unacceptable and signifies the work that needs to be done.
This is true for all the sides at this level, though. One or two good batsmen are present in every side and if they fail, the rest of the batting finds it hard to cope.
Tony Ura and Assad Vala are the two batsmen in the PNG side that are expected to shoulder the bulk of the responsibility of scoring runs. There are some other senior players like Kiplin Doriga and Charles Amini in the middle order but neither of those two players can be expected to make very big scores consistently.
PNG’s batting is susceptible to early wickets and we don’t think they have the depth to be able to recover from such damage.
Nosaina Pokana is the lead bowler for PNG and has been in decent form. He picked up three wickets against USA in the previous match and was helped by some handy performances from the others as well. Jason Kila took three wickets while Lega Siaka chipped in with two as well.
The bowing for PNG is decent and can do the job provided the batsmen give it something to defend.
Tony Ura, Gaudi Toka, Assad Vala, Lega Siaka, Charles Amin, Kiplin Doriga, Chad Soper, Jason Kila, Hiri Hiri, Norman Vanua, Nosaina Pokana.
A fantastic century for JP Kotze led Namibia to a resounding win against USA. H scored 136 from just 17 deliveries and smashed eight sixes along the way. It looked for a while that he was going to be the one ranger for Namibia but Jan Frylinck gave him good support down the order as well.
Namibia eventually managed 287, well above the par total, and had no trouble defending it.
The bowlers also like bowling when there is a big total to defend. On this occasion, they had 287 runs in the bank but never took things lightly. Jan Fryinck bowled two maidens upfront, Pikky France took two wickets but the pick of the bowlers was Zhivago Groenewald who ended up with five wickets from his eight overs.
With Craig Williams, JJ Smit, and Bernard Scholtz also in the bowing unit, Namibia certainly has the better bowling attack.
A good score in the previous match does not guarantee another and this is where Namibia has to be careful. All the senior batsmen must take more responsibility and give the necessary respect to the opposition bowlers.
Stephan Baard, Karl Birkenstock, JP Kotze, Gerhard Erasmus, CG Williams, JJ Smit, Zane Green, Jan Frylinck, Z Groenewald, Pikky Ya France, Bernard Scholtz.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. Winning the toss is a big advantage and must be taken into account while placing your bets.

PNG vs Namibia ODI ICC World Cup League Two is going to be played at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida on the 22nd of September 2019. The weather forecast for Lauderhill, Florida suggests that we have a better day to look forward to for this match. There is some rain predicted earlier in the day but the sun is expected for most of the day after.
The pitch continues to be slow and difficult for free-scoring batsmen. A total of around 250 is going to be quite hard to chase down. The slower bowlers and the spinners are going to be the ones to flourish.
Namibia seems to have the better team in this contest. Both the sides have a vulnerable batting lineup but current form is on the side of Namibian batsmen. The bowling attack for Namibia also seems to be a bit better than what PNG possesses.
Bet on Namibia to win.
