About the Match
On 11th April , 2013 when Rajasthan Royals take on Pune Warriors India at Pune’s home ground only, the call will be quite easy to make as who is going to emerge as the winner in this competition by having even just a glance at the journey till now of both the teams. Rajasthan on one hand where have won both their matches even against strong opponents like Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders. Pune on the other hand has yet to taste the joy of victory after being on the losing side in both of their opening games even when they were against Punjab and Hyderabad which are themselves not considered strong competitors.
Pune Warriors India:
As discussed right from their formation in IPL, Pune is still having some holes in their batting wall which was quite easily spotted when they were unable to chase down even a small target of mere 127 runs against the Sunrisers. Also in the second match after batting first, the Warriors were able to post only 99 runs after which not much was left in the game. But with new ideas from the young captain Angelo Mathews and a decent line up on paper Pune must be having its spirits high to go against the Royals much depending on how Uthappa and Ross Taylor perform.
Making only up to the group stages in last four seasons of the league the Royals do show the signs of repeating history as their first season, when they emerged as the winners, by winning the first two games. The present form of main batsman Shane Watson might be posing some problem to the Royals, but the type of show rest of the players including Dravid, Rahane and most importantly Brad Hodge are putting up makes it difficult for any bowling line up to bowl against. Though the bowling line up does not possess big names other than Shaun Tait and Sreesanth still the whole unit has been able to make the best of the tracks they are made to play on.
It might appear to be a mismatch, but Pune is a very strong team when it gets going. With power hitters like Uthappa, Taylor and Yuvraj, they can chase biggest of targets. However, the cause of their concern is that all of them are looking out of sorts. Rajasthan, on the contrary, has been fabulous in all departments of the game. Considering recent results and PWI’s form, I am tempted to go for Royals.
