PZ vs IU Match Prediction - Feb 27, 2021

Pakistan Super League 2021 is picking up pace faster than most would have expected. We saw two towering totals getting scaled with incredible ease in the last two days. Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United both chased down near-200 totals in their respective matches. The two teams are now set to be up against each other in the upcoming PSL contest.

Both sides have some terrific batting talent available at their disposal and can produce yet another high-scoring encounter. The match, which is to be played at National Stadium, Karachi, on 27th February is expected to go right down to the wire. The fans are certainly in for a feast.

PZ vs IU Team Previews

Peshawar Zalmi

Islamabad United are arguably the most successful side in the history of the tournament, having won the title twice - in 2016 and 2018. In 2020, however, Islamabad United finished at the bottom of the pit and needed something special from their players this year. They have started off on a brilliant note this year as well, winning both their matches comprehensively. As it currently stands, Islamabad United are placed at the top of the points table and are looking in really good form at the moment.

Their recent win over Karachi Kings was an example of how well-balanced they as a team are. While they do not have star-power available at their disposal, almost all of their players are proven T20 campaigners. With the likes of Phil Salt and Alex Hales at the top, their batting lineup oozes class. Something that seems to be working for them thus far is the depth in their batting. Lewis Gregory is available to bat at number eight and that tells a lot about their versatility. That versatility is further added to by the presence of other all-rounders in Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, and Hasan Ali. All of those are pretty capable hitters of the ball, albeit known more for their bowling skills.

In both matches that the United have won, we saw their depth come to their rescue. It was a scintillating knock by Lewis Gregory in the first match and the likes of Hussain Talat and Ifthikar Ahmed took them home in the subsequent match. With the ball as well, it is their all-rounders who do all the work for them. Their mainstream bowlers are a little light on experience and might prove to be the brittle point for United. All in all, Islamabad United have got a terrific side on paper, having immaculate balance. It is going to be difficult to get past them, not just in the upcoming match but also in the matches to follow.

Islamabad United

Just like Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi have produced flawless cricket in the competition so far. Peshawar Zalmi have won both their matches and are placed right next to Islamabad United, with two separated only by the net run-rate. Historically, Peshawar Zalmi have a stellar record in the competition, of qualifying to the playoffs in all editions of the tournament. They have won the title twice from two final appearances.

On paper, there's no other team in the competition that is as experienced as Peshawar Zalmi. With Shoaib Malik and Ravi Bopara in the middle-order, with both of them being in pretty good touch, the middle-order is pretty much sorted for them. The only void that appears to be there in their side is the one left by the departure of Hasan Ali, who coincidentally is now playing for Islamabad United. With Ali not being there, the onus of the bowling lies with Wahab Riaz and Mujeeb ur Rahman.

In the two matches done so far, their top-order hasn't really fired in unison and that will be a bit of concern for them. Imam Ul Haq and Tom Kohler Cadmore did well, but Kamran Akmal would want to add some value at the top. As seen in the last match, the Zalmis have a terrific lower middle-order and if that gets going, not many bowlers can stop them. Peshawar Zalmi would want their bowlers to do a bit better in the upcoming match and if that happens, they will be in business big time.

PZ vs IU Betting Tips

Peshawar Zalmi have a terrific side that oozes class all through their lineup. They have the right players available for the right job, but the form of Kamran Akmal could be bit concerning for them. Islamabad United, on the other hand, have looked flawless so far. However, the over-reliance on all-rounders could backfire for them against a potent side like Zalmis. Comparing the two sides on paper, it is going to be a battle between youth and exuberance. Islamabad United have done slightly better than Zalmis thus far and are a better-balanced side between the two. For that reason, betting on a United win should be the way to go here.
