The second phase of the Pakistan Super League 2021 began with a bang as we saw a tightly contest match between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United. The tournament will move forward with Qalandars playing their second game on consecutive days as they take on Peshawar Zalmi on a double-header day. The match between the two sides will be played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on 10th June 2021.
Getting an opportunity to play first up and then registering a win would have been a terrific feeling for the Qalandars. With this recent win over Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars are now placed comfortably at the top of the points table and will be looking to maintain their supremacy.
They currently have eight points to their name with four wins in five matches coupled with a net run-rate of 0.077. The fact that Lahore Qalandars have already played a match in phase two of the tournament should play massively to their advantage.
Apart from that, the Qalandars have a decent side with ample experience available in Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Hafeez. Also, Sohail Akhtar has been in terrific form for them and will like to continue scoring runs for his side. Arguably, Rashid Khan is their main exponent who will be more than a handful in UAE's conditions. All in all, the Qalandars have a decent side and with the momentum gained from their previous match, they will not be an easy side to deal with.
Kamran Akmal, Haider Ali, Shoaib Malik, David Miller, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, F Allen, Wahab Riaz, Umaid Asif, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Imran.
Like Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi too won three wins in the first leg of the tournament and will want to build on top of that - quickly. Right before the tournament was suspended, Peshawar Zalmi failed to score what could have been an inspirational win over Karachi Kings as they could not defend even a 188-run total.
Peshawar Zalmi features some of the stalwarts of the format in Shoaib Malik, Ravi Bopara, and Wahab Riaz. These players have delivered consistently for their respective sides over the years across the globe and their experience could come in handy for the youngsters. Apart from them, they have the likes of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Kamran Akmal, and Haider Ali at their disposal.
On paper, Peshawar Zalmi appear to be a decent side, but they would need to get acquainted with the conditions quickly. If they are able to do that, Lahore Qalandars will have their work cut out.
Fakhar Zaman, Sohail Akhtar, Muhammad Faizan, Mohammad Hafeez, Ben Dunk, Tim David, James Faulkner, Rashid Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Ahmed Daniel, Haris Rauf.
While the two teams are matched fairly evenly on paper, the Qalandars have the advantage of having already played a game at this venue. Besides, they won that match and will likely be brimming with confidence. Considering that and the other above-stated factors, we are placing our money on a Qalandars win and so should you.
