PZ vs QG Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Feb 15, 2019

Peshawar Zalmi is the second most successful side in the history of the Pakistan Super League. The franchise was the winner of PSL 2017 and then runner-up in PSL 2018. There have been a few changes to the squad that may require a little rebalancing of the side for PSL 2019, though. Peshawar Zalmi is going to start its Pakistan Super League 2019 campaign against the Quetta Gladiators.

The Quetta Gladiators have been runners-up for the first two seasons of the PSL but finished fourth in PSL 2019. The side is filled with quality talent which sometimes does not seem to be as well gelled together as some of the other franchises.

They have added some formidable T20 players that should help them remain competitive and maybe even provide that extra push to get over the line.

These are two relatively evenly matched sides taking on each other and should make for very interesting viewing.

PZ vs QG Team Previews

Peshawar Zalmi

Peshawar Zalmi lost two important players before PSL 2019 in Mohammad Hafeez and Tamim Iqbal. Curiously, they have chosen to replace these players with middle order batsmen, one of whom is 44 years old.

Kieron Pollard and Misbah Ul Haq are the two players that have been added to the Peshawar Zalmi side after the PSL 2019 draft. We can understand why the side would go for Pollard. He has been in good form in the CPL and even the BPL leading up to the PSL. He is, however, someone that needs to bat a bit further up the order than he usually does to get the best out of him.

Misbah Ul Haq, on the other hand, is a strange pick. He has played no T20 cricket since the last PSL and will take up a place of a youngster that may have developed the Zalmi side further.

Still, there are some very good players in the squad. Kamran Akmal has scored more runs than any other batsman in the history of the PSL while Wahab Riaz has picked more wickets than any other bowler. Both of them provide an excellent balance to the side. Imam Ul Haq has also joined the Peshawar Zalmi side and will be an excellent option at the top of the order.

Darren Sammy, Liam Dawson, Andre Fletcher, Chris Jordan, and Dawid Malan make for a good pool of overseas players too. Andre Fletcher should get a run at the top of the order while Dawid Malan may bat at three.

Wayne Madsen is also in the squad and he is another excellent batsman who has done well in the Vitality T20 Blast.

There are plenty of options that are available for the Peshawar Zalmi side but they will need to find their balance quickly. The loss of two top-order batsmen can be a bit difficult to recover from and so the replacement players must start performing from the word go.

The pressure on Kamran Akmal and Wahab Riaz to keep the side ticking from the first match of PSL 2019 is going to be tremendous.

Peshawar Zalmi Playing 11

Kamran Akmal, ADS Fletcher , Sohaib Maqsood, Misbah-ul-Haq, Kieron Pollard, LA Dawson, DJG Sammy, Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, Umaid Asif, Sameen Gul.

Quetta Gladiators

The Quetta Gladiators have made some excellent additions to their squad for PSL 2019 and we think they are going to be one of the teams to watch out for. Dwayne Bravo, Sohail Tanvir, and Sunil Narine joined the Quetta Gladiators to add immense strength to the side. Unfortunately for Quetta, it looks like the participation of Sunil Narine is going to be in doubt due to an injury.

Sarfaraz Ahmed is going to be leading the Quetta Gladiators side and that is a big positive as well. He has been leading Pakistan for a significant portion of time and it is in T20 cricket where he has been most successful.

The Gladiators have added Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad into their squad too. We rate Umar Akmal quite highly even though his off-field behavior can be a distraction for the team he is a part of. Ahmed Shahzad, on the other hand, is not someone we like at all.

He bats at the top of the order, plays too many dot balls and then throws away his wicket while accelerating. There are some good innings that he has played but they seem to be too few and far in between.

The likes of Fawad Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, and Mohammad Asghar provide plenty of spin options to Sarfaraz even in the absence of Sunil Narine. With Mohammad Irfan Jr, Sohail Tanvir, Dwayne Bravo, and Anwar Ali in the side, the Quetta Gladiators are spoiled for choice when it comes to their bowling attack.

Shane Watson and Rilee Rossow, both likely to bat in the top-3 for the Quetta Gladiators, have been in excellent form leading up to the PSL. Shane Watson clobbered a century in the Big Bash while Rossow top-scored in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Quetta Gladiators Playing 11

Ahmed Shehzad, Dwayne Smith, SR Watson, Rilee Rossouw, Umar Akmal, Sarfraz Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Ghulam Mudassar, S Tanvir, Fawad Ahmed, M Irfan Jnr.

Pitch and Conditions

The Pakistan Super League 2019 match between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators is going to be played at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai. The weather is expected to be hot and sunny as it most often is in the desert.

The pitch at Dubai has been hosting an incredible number of matches and it tends to stay the same throughout. It is going to be slow, the bounce is going to be consistent but low, and there will be very little help for the bowlers.

PZ vs QG Betting Tips

The Peshawar Zalmi side looks a little dodgy to us ahead of PSL 2019. Yes, they have a history of successful PSL campaigns and have a core group of players that seems to function very well together. They have, however, lost some crucial players and their replacements are not the best. The Quetta Gladiators definitely have a chance of winning their opening match of PSL 2019 and that is what we advise betting on.

Back the Quetta Gladiators to win.
