The opening match of PSL 2020 is going to be played between Islamabad United and the Quetta Gladiators. This is the first time that Pakistan Super League is going to be played in Pakistan and so we have no doubt that the crowds are going to be streaming into the stadiums.
The enormity of the occasion can make some of the younger players a bit nervous. It can also change the manner in which the captains approach the game. All the teams have reinforced their squads and learned from past editions of the PSL.
Starting well has always been one of the important aspects of succeeding in the PSL. Will the two-time champions, Islamabad United, put one over the defending champions of the PSL?
Quetta Gladiators vs Islamabad United PSL 2020 is going to be played at the National Stadium, Karachi on the 20th of February 2020.
The Quetta Gladiators will be hoping to begin their title defense with a victory. The squad that they have put together for this season is pretty strong on paper and we believe they have made some smart picks to be in a better place than the previous season.
The addition of Jason Roy to the squad should adequately fill the loss of Rilee Rossow. Roy will make the most of the new ball and will give Shane Watson some time to get set at the top of the order as well. Shane Watson, though, has been a bit slow to start off in tournaments and will struggle to replicate his 430 runs from the previous season.
Ahmed Shahzad, Umar Akmal, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Ben Cutting provide some decent batting options in the playing eleven. A lot will depend on the three former Pakistan players and the Quetta Gladiators must hope for some of the youngsters to emerge as well. Azam Khan, Moin Khan’s son, is one of the players to watch out for with his big-hitting abilities.
Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain will lead the pace-attack with support from Ben Cutting, Fawad Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, and maybe Tymal Mills.
The bowling attack is full of promise but relying on two teenagers for PSL 2020 could be a bit risky.
Sarfraz Ahmed, Ahmed Shehzad, Abdul Nasir, SR Watson, JJ Roy, Mohammad Nawaz, Ben Cutting, Mohammad Hasnain, Sohail Khan, Fawad Ahmed, Azam Khan.
Islamabad United has put together a team that is not very big on T20 stars but has a few seasoned T20 professionals to bank upon. Luke Ronchi has had a lot of success in the PSL in the past and is going to lead the batting efforts once again. He is going to be joined by Colin Ingram, Colin Munro, Dawid Malan, and Phil Salt as the core of the batting group.
Asif Ali is also in there to help bolster the power-hitting capabilities.
The all-rounders and the lower middle-order is going to be held together by the Pakistani players. Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Hussain Talat, and Faheem Ashraf are all options for Islamabad United to explore.
One of the big concerns we have about this squad is that most of their players are in a downward trend in their careers. Their recent form has not been good and they are out of the national reckoning at the moment.
Phil Salt and Dawid Malan are very talented batsmen but their record in the subcontinent is a big unknown. We have seen players from England struggle to adapt to the conditions in the subcontinent all too often in the past.
There are some promising bowlers in the side but a lack of experience and current form seems to be the problem with most of them. A lot of things will need to go right for Islamabad United to be able to consistently compete with the stronger teams in PSL 2020.
Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Akif Javed, Luke Ronchi, Hussain Talat, Faheem Ashraf, Colin Ingram, Colin Munro, Amad Butt, Musa Khan, Dawid Malan.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bowl first to try and benefit from any dew that may come down later on. Winning the toss and fielding should be seen as a big advantage.

The weather forecast for Karachi is excellent and we should not have any trouble in getting a full match. The pitch at the Karachi stadium was on the slower side when Bangladesh visited. A similar sort of surface can be expected although hopefully, it will be a bit better for batting.
Dew can be a big problem and that is something the teams will have to be on the lookout for.
A score of around 160-170 seems to be the par total that teams will aim for batting first.
Dream11 tips and Dream11 prediction for Quetta Gladiators vs Islamabad United
We are sticking with the defending champions in this match. The Quetta Gladiators have a good core of local players and a strong top-order. The bowling also has two of the most exciting talents in Pakistan. We think they should be able to start with a win.
