The PSL 2019 Final is here and we have the Quetta Gladiators taking on Islamabad United. Both teams fully deserve their place in the PSL Final. They have played a brand of cricket that has been better than the rest and consistently outperformed other well-stacked sides.
This will be the fourth time that the Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United are playing against each other in PSL 2019. They played two group matches, Qualifier 1, and now the PSL Final. On all three previous occasions, the Quetta Gladiators have emerged victorious and can be considered favorites for the title.
Peshawar Zalmi is not a side to be taken lightly, however. They have some of the best power hitters in their side and will have learned a lot from those three previous defeats. Can the Quetta Gladiators defeat a strong side like Peshawar Zalmi for the fourth time in one PSL season?
Shane Watson played an excellent inning in the last match against Peshawar Zalmi and set the stage for a big total. After having an extremely productive BBL, Watson is showing he has not lost any of his batting prowess by smashing bowlers in the PSL as well.
There is no doubt in our minds that he is the biggest player for the Quetta Gladiators. If he gets out early then the side will find it very hard to recover from that. Ahmed Shehzad will want to try and continue the kind of form he has shown this season and add some more momentum about a possible return to the Pakistani side.
We don’t rate him very highly, though, and advise against backing him at this stage.
A punt on Rilee Rossouw to be the highest scorer for Quetta is not a bad option. He has been batting a bit lower down the order but could be sent up if the situation demands. We have a lot of time for Rossow’s ability to handle pressure and think he could make a telling contribution in the upcoming match.
Umar Akmal, Sarfraz Ahmed, and Dwayne Bravo add a lot of heft to the batting lineup but there is definitely a slight dependence on the top-order to get a big score.
Fawad Ahmed has been injured and will play no further role in the PSL final. This is a big loss to the Quetta Gladiators ahead of a crucial match. Fawad Ahmed was an integral part of the bowling lineup alongside Sohail Tanvir and Dwayne Bravo. Now someone else also will have to step up. Our pick to be the highest wicket taker is Mohammad Hasnain, a superstar in the making, and someone we expect to see rattling international batsmen very shortly.
SR Watson, Ahmed Shehzad, Ahsan Ali, Rilee Rossouw, Umar Akmal, Sarfraz Ahmed, Dwayne Bravo, Mohammad Nawaz, S Tanvir, Mohammad Hasnain, Fawad Ahmed.
It was an absolute treat to watch Peshawar Zalmi in the previous match. The side was not overawed by the occasion or the fact that it was playing the defending champions, Islamabad United. They also did not follow the traditional T20 pattern of trying to push down your impact players till later in the match but rather took the game to the opposition from the very beginning.
Peshawar Zalmi has a world class batting lineup thanks to the presence of Kamran Akmal, Imam ul Haq, Kieron Pollard, and Darren Sammy. Even Misbah ul Haq provides some very valuable cover in the middle of the inning and can still prevent a collapse if necessary.
Kamran Akmal and Kieron Pollard are going to be the two biggest wickets for Quetta Gladiators in this match. The opposition will not be able to breathe easily until even one of these players is in the middle.
Kieron Pollard has always threatened to be the most destructive T20 batsman going around but he has only just recently started to fulfill on that promise. He is batting consistently, clearing the boundaries with ease, and getting his side to big totals.
Pollard and Sammy were responsible for Peshawar Zalmi coming close against Quetta Gladiators in the previous match and were also chiefly responsible for getting Peshawar Zalmi the win against Islamabad United.
The bowling lineup of Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, Sameen Gul, Liam Dawson, Tymall Mills, and Kieron Pollard is not to be scoffed at either. There is enough variation, skill, and experience in this lineup to pose a healthy challenge to the Quetta Gladiators from the first ball.
We really think that Wahab Riaz should be used as an attacking option first up because Watson has been found susceptible to high pace in recent times. Hasan Ali has been a prolific wicket-taker in PSL 2019 and is going to be the bowler that the side turns to in crunch situations once again.
Peshawar Zalmi is a very strong side and they definitely have the potential to win the PSL 2019 Final.
Kamran Akmal, Imam-ul-Haq, Kieron Pollard, Sohaib Maqsood, DJG Sammy, Wahab Riaz, Chris Jordan, Hasan Ali, TS Mills, Umar Amin, Nabi Gul.
The side winning the toss may want to bat first considering its a big final

The match between the Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi is going to be played at the National Stadium, Karachi. The weather is expected to be excellent for cricket and the pitch is going to be very good for batting. We have seen nothing to suggest that runs scoring will become more difficult and with two strong batting lineups going at each other, a barrage of boundaries should be in store.
A score of around 180-190 can be considered par on this surface.
The Quetta Gladiators have won their last three matches against Peshawar Zalmi pretty convincingly but we believe it is time for Peshawar Zalmi to turn the tables. They have been playing better and better as the tournament has progressed and were at their best in the previous match. Peshawar Zalmi and the Quetta Gladiators are quite closely matched in most respects but Zalmi’s in-form batting should be able to do the trick in this match.
Back Peshawar Zalmi to win.
