We are only two days into the Abu Dhabi T10 League and we've seen a lot happening already. In the last match of the second day, Northern Warriors, arguably the strongest team of the tournament were bundled out for a paltry total of 46. They were handed this defeat by Qalandars, who had somehow managed to salvage a tie in their first encounter. They'll be up against the Maratha Warriors in their upcoming encounter, which is to be played at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on 17th November.
While a few would have expected Qalandars to script a win over the Warriors, only a tiny fraction would have anticipated such a huge margin of win. Batting first on a used surface, the Qalandars' batsmen started from where they left of in the last match and scored the highest total of the tournament.
With Andre Russell in pristine touch on the other side, Qalandars' bowlers had a job at their hands and they did it to perfection. Lahiru Kumara and Sekugee Prasanna Never allowed Warriors' top-order to get going, which inturn resulted in more quick wickets. Qalandars eventually won the match by 66 runs, which is a record in itself.
Tom Banton, Luke Ronchi, Dawid Malan, Philip Salt, Jordan Clark, Chris Jordan, S Prasanna, SR Patel, Lahiru Kumara, George Garton, Sultan Ahmed.
Maratha Arabians are currently placed at the bottom of the Group B points table and need to make a move on unless they want to make things difficult for themselves. They were handed an embarrasing defeat in the first match of the series by Northern Warriors.
In the first match, their batting failed miserably as they couldn't even get to a total of 90 runs batting first. Although they picked up an early wicket in their defense of that total, it proved to be too little a damage to the Warriors as Andre Russell single-handedly drove them to a victory.
Adam Lyth, Chris Lynn, CAK Walton, Y Singh, Dasun Shanaka, James Fuller, Wanidu Hasaranga, Dwayne Bravo, MJ Mcclenaghan, Lasith Malinga, Shiraz Ahmed.
The two teams are placed at the opposite ends of the points table, but it all can change very quickly tomorrow. Maratha Warriors certainly have a few extragavant match-winners available at their disposal, who could make life difficult for the Qalandars. Having said that, Qalandars are coming off a superb win over Warriors and that should have boosted their confidence by a massive degree. Comparing the two teams on paper and on performance in the series so far, Qalandars are better placed to emerge on top tomorrow.
