About the Match
It has been like a roller-coaster ride for Lahore Qalandars in this season of Pakistan Super League. They take on Quetta Gladiators, who too have seen similar fortunes in the tournament so far. The match is scheduled to be played on Saturday which will be first of the double header clash. Lahore Qalandars lost to Quetta Gladiators and then made a superb comeback against Islamabad United. They were then thrashed by Peshawar Zalmi in which they were bowled out for just 59. In their most recent encounter, their batsmen showed their mettle and scored the highest score of the season. With lots at stake and tournament gradually moving towards the business end, a win will be vital for both the sides. Can Lahore turn the tables to take revenge from Quetta Gladiators?
Rilee Rossouw has been a match-winner for the Gladiators with the bat, exceeding the fifty-run mark twice in three games. Asad Shafiq has been steady at the top of the order, but his strike-rate which is hovering around 107 will be a cause for concern. Their biggest concern will be the form of Kevin Pietersen who has scored two golden ducks in three matches. He hasn't done particularly well in the third game too, scoring just three runs.
The Gladiators will be hoping Sarfraz's form and extravagance has some positive impact on the team and induce good performances. Their bowling has done well in the tournament so far Perera has picked up wickets, but he would like to get hammered for fewer runs in his allotted quota. Tymal Mills did not feature in the last couple of games and he is knocking to take Perera's place.
Overall, the Gladiators have done well in the tournament and with their bowling lineup and knack of defending low totals, they can be a tough team to handle.
Lahore Qalandars feature one of the deadliest pairs in Pakistan Super League with JJ Roy and Brendon McCullum at the top of the order. Although Brendon McCullum hasn't been scoring the kind of runs expected off him, he's giving his team a flying start with quick twenties. Roy has been explosive and has scored at a strike rate of over 150 in three games. Fakhar Zaman has been their star performer as he fetched Man of the Match award in the last game. The management will be worried about Akmal's consistency who has two ducks along with a 25 and 35 in the tournament.
Their bowling is as good as that of Quetta, if not better, on paper. Two unorthodox bowlers in Sohail Tanvir and Sunil Narine helps them check the run-flow and pick up wickets at crucial moments. Yasir Shah too has been phenomenal as far as bowling is concerned. Grant Elliot provides the skipper with an extra bowling option which is always handy in the shortest format of the game.
Overall, Lahore Qalandars are an extremely balanced unit with a solid batting and sharp bowling lineup and can shake even the best of the teams on their day.
Both the teams have done similarly in the tournament and the teams will be itching to get their noses in front in this game. Quetta has a strong batting lineup on paper, but their on-field form is a concerning factor. The Qalandars, on the other hand, have a nicely balanced squad with the experienced skipper in Brendon McCullum. We think that the Qalandars will edge past Quetta to take revenge for the defeat they faced in their last match
