About the Match
The match between Rajasthan and Chennai will be being played on 23rd Apr at Dubai, the venue being new for both the teams, who have collected 2 points each from two matches so far, with both teams losing to a formidable and in- form Kings XI Punjab. In the two matches played so far, Chennai Super Kings won the toss and chose to bat first, which is a reflection of the confidence they have on their batting strength, belief on their bowlers and confidence of the team; whereas Royals won the toss in their first match, chose to field and in the 2nd match, they were asked to bat first having lost the toss, set up a reasonably good total but could not defend against the onslaught of Maxwell. The loss is fresh in the minds of Rajasthan whereas Chennai has sweet memoirs of the crushing defeat they inflicted on the Daredevils.
Rahane and Abhishek have learnt to lay a good foundation as openers, without wasting balls; Watson and Samson lived up to the expectation with both of them smashing half centuries, hitting sixes and fours at will. Coming at No.5, Binny provides stability and steadies the innings with a good strike rate and he played anchor in the first match, rotating strikes and maintaining a good run rate. Richardson is very good with the ball and in the field, accounting for the dismissal of half the side of the Sunrisers and responsible for the dismissal of the hard-hitting Maxwell in the 2nd match. It was a superior batting display of the Punjab batsmen which cost RR the match and similar condition is seen in this tie against a superior batting power of CSK. Anything below 200, will not be sufficient if they are batting first and they have to be very efficient in fielding, with the dependable Faulkner who is very good as an all-rounder. Watson will need to use the resources in hand in a strategic manner and their team spirit will be key to their success.
Chennai Super Kings
CSK is brimming with confidence having won the 2nd match with a huge margin of 94 runs against Daredevils, who had toppled the rolling KKR. They have been consistent in their batting, with a formidable line up, starting with Smith and McCullum who are giving good starts, supported well by Faf du Plessis, Raina, Dhoni and Bravo. Ashwin and Jadeja are turning the ball well with Pandey, Smith, Hilfenhaus and Sharma providing teeth to the bowling attack. They have learnt lessons from the 1st match defeat and have improved their fielding; the bowlers need to have strategy for each opposing player as the RR batting line-up is strong too. Raina is proving to be a very useful player and contributes to the strategy of the team in building a good foundation, keeping wickets in hand for a fire up after the half way mark with Dhoni and Jadeja.
Neither of the teams will let the match slip away from their hands; they will try and raise the level of the game in all fronts to outwit the opponent, especially Royals, understanding well the strengths of the opposing team. A very keen contest is in hand and we expect CSK to maintain their winning momentum.
