About the Match
Kings XI put up a great show by defeating Chennai Super Kings in their 1st match, wherein more than 400 runs were scored and the winner did the work with 7 balls to spare without taking nerves to the wire. They now go up against Rajasthan Royals, who defeated Hyderabad in their opening encounter, on Apr 20th at Sharjah. The new looking Mohali team has a balanced composition of bowlers with variety and dependable batting line up; Rajasthan Royals did well to restrict the Sunrisers to a modest target of 133 runs with some superb bowling and then successfully chase down the target with 4 wickets in hand and 3 balls to spare. Both teams are jubilated with their respective wins and will look to surge forward here; the contest seems to be evenly placed, judging from the strengths of the teams.
They have Kulkarni, Faulkner, Bhatia and Tambe who can bowl good line and length with Richardson, who did well in accounting for 5 dismissals against Sunrisers, two with his disciplined bowling and three top order batsmen with superb catches. The Royals once again displayed good team effort in containing the sunrisers’ batsmen to 133 thus facing an achievable target; Rahane provided the resilience to the batting line up, scoring 59 off 53 deliveries and laid a good foundation for the rest of the batsmen to do the needful. There are batsmen in the middle order who can dig in and meet the target set by the opponents; Binny’s terrific unbeaten 48 off 32 balls, gives good support to the partners and rotating strike easily, took the team home safely. This win should be a good morale booster for the team and they look confident to face the Kings XI with determination and zeal.
Kings XI Punjab
Chasing a Mammoth target of 205, a revamped Kings XI Punjab batted superbly to overhaul the target with 7 balls to spare and 6 wickets in hand. Thanks to a good start by flamboyant Sehwag and the blistering knock of 95 runs off just 43 balls from Maxwell, Punjab came out with all guns blazing here. They could not check the flow of runs of formidable CSK who piled up 123 runs for the opening partnership; Mitchell Johnson was not effective and gave away too many runs; however, Patel provided the much needed breakthrough in the thirteenth over. Balaji claimed 2 wickets and looks to be in good form; with support from Patel, Awana and Dhawan, the squad can probe the defense of the Royals’ batsmen. The opening pair of Pujara and Sehwag can lay good foundation though they need to survive the initial hick-ups; the dependable top and middle order in Miller, Maxwell and Bailey, who can raise the level of the batting to meet the demands of the situation, is a big positive for this team.
Both teams have scored thumping victories and are looking good for an interesting tussle; while Mohali won a tall target with a huge margin and the Royals achieved a reasonably modest target by taking the contest to the last over, both sides are equally matched in performances. This match will be a treat to watch and could swing either way; however, Kings XI look better placed to win the contest comfortably.
