About the Match
The Royals have slipped down to 5th position with 14 points on the table and will fight hard against KKR, who have 15 points and occupy the second position, on 16th May at Mumbai to keep their hopes alive. Both teams are under pressure and for Royals this is a must-win situation; on the other hand KKR also need a win in this match to secure a passage to the playoffs since the heat from other teams is scorching them up too. The contest will be very exciting and fans will be eagerly waiting to see if their teams make it to the next stage; whichever side can keep a cool head above its shoulders in crunch situations will definitely have the advantage to come right on top.
They lost their last match against CSK by 12 runs after failing to reach the target of 158; Shane Watson scored 28 and Ajinkya Rahane scored 23 runs playing fluent hands but the visitors needed more from the opening duo. James Faulkner and Sanju Samson 26 too made their presence felt but couldn’t take the team safely home. Earlier, Ankit Sharma and Tambe struggled to make it count; Chris Morris bowled a decent spell upfront and picked up 3 wickets while Sharma claimed one wicket. They also lost a high-scoring match against SRH previously and these two defeats have certainly shaken their confidence. The team struggled with the bowling and leaked away 201 runs; Steven Smith posted 68 off 40 while James Faulkner scored 30 off 19 but in the end they failed to reach the target. Shane Watson holds a very good batting record against CSK, having scored 452 runs in 11 innings while Rahane made vital contributions and has been the lynchpin to the team's success. Either Sanju Samson or Stuart Binny will have to play a big role to overcome their opponents while on the bowling front, they must solve the problems in the death overs although Tim Southee has been a revelation with the new ball.
Kolkata Knight Riders
It was defeat against Mumbai Indians by 5 runs in the last game being unable to get to the competitive 172 runs despite Yusuf Pathan’s heroics; he played with composure blasting 52 off 37 while Gautam Gambhir scored 38 off 29. However, they lost their way in the final over; earlier, Shakib picked up 2 wickets but the others hardly made a dent on the opposition. In the previous match, they had managed to sneak a one-wicket win against KXIP with Andre Russell helping KKR hold on to their winning touch as he smashed 51 off just 21 balls. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 4-19. Overall, they have a strong batting line-up with Gambhir, Uthappa, Manish Pandey and all-rounders Andre Russell and Pathan being in good shape. Umesh Yadav’s pace has fetched him nine wickets while Russell and Chawla have picked up 11 each. Sunil Narine and Brad Hogg have also troubled the batsmen and they will be boosted by the all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan; the team is well equipped to handle any situation and win the upcoming match.
It has been an action-filled tournament as both teams are giving a very tough time to their opponents in every match. Royals have been performing well, but have lost a few nervy games and with the home support added to their advantage, I'd place my bet on them.
