About the Match
Although Rajasthan Royals have qualified for the semi-finals with three straight wins, they face another challenging task that is to secure place in first Semifinal which is at Jaipur. They now face in their final group match on 1st Oct against Otago Volts who won their previous encounter against Lions which was decided by super over at a crunch situation after both teams tied at 167. Otago kept its composure in the super over and won the match, thus taking its tally to 10 points. Royals won the previous match against Scorchers and are sitting prettily on top of the table in Group A with 12 points closely followed by Otago, with 10 points and in No.2 spot. The Royals have qualified for the semi-finals but the fate of Otago depends on this match. A win for Otago would knock Mumbai out and send Royals to Delhi to play their semifinal whereas a defeat for them would leave their fate resting on the result of Mumbai's game. Since both the teams are still undefeated in CLT20 so far, this is expected to be an exciting match between the top two contenders from Group A.
It was a thrilling finish to the match against Lions, who put up a tough fight till the last. Otago has played three matches and this will be the last match for them in the Group stage. Neesham, coming at No.6, contributed 52 runs off 25 balls by holding on one end and his heroics led to the match going into the super-over, where he again kept his cool and didn't let the match slip away. Mcullum has a very fit and fighting team who will not like to shy away from the contest and ensure that Royals are stretched to the limits. If they win this match, they are also sure of making it to the next level, making other matches in 'Group A' non- consequential. With a tight win against the Lions, Otago might have shown some of their weaknesses, but is still looking very strong here.
The team has done exceptionally well under the leadership of Dravid, who believes in team spirit and is composed at any situation. They have won all three matches they played so far comprehensively beating the opposition and continue to remain unbeaten on home turf. They have a very solid batting line up, where the lower order had no chance yet to put their pads on. Against Scorchers they won the toss and Dravid put them to bat, restricting them to just 120 claiming all wickets in 20 overs. They strangled the Scorchers who kept losing wickets at regular intervals, where Cooper did a superb bowling, claiming 4 wickets with other bowlers giving good support. Royals won the match comfortably by 9 wickets in the 17th over and are looking very confident at this stage. Beating Royals at Jaipur is going to be an uphill task for any side, especially when they are in such commanding form.
This contest will still have some bearing on Rajasthan Royals' though they have already made it to the next level. For Otago Volts, however, the outcome of this match will decide their fate in the competiton and is a crucial match for them. If Otago wins this match then Mumbai is out of contest and Otago will take the No. 1 spot in Group A and Royals will end up at second place. Going by the recent performances and home advantage, I think that Royals will win this match comfortably yet again.
