About the Match
Rajasthan Royals did almost everything right in their contest against Chennai; however, they lost by a narrow margin of 7 runs in a disappointing finish by the batsmen. They continue to have just 2 points from three matches and will face the in-form Bangalore team, which has 4 points from the three matches they played with the last match against KKR turning sensational but sadly resulting in a shocking loss by just 2 runs! While Rajasthan needs to gear up and defend well against the hard-hitting Bangalore players, Bangalore, which has suffered its first loss this season, will be eager to bounce back stronger. It will definitely be an interesting contest between the batsmen from both sides, and each of them will try to dominate the other right from the start.
Rajat Bhatia proved useful when he took 2 wickets giving away just 13 runs and cause a run-out with his alertness on the field; the bowlers Faulkner, Binny and Pravin Tambe contributed with a wicket each at regular pace to expose the weaknesses of the Chennai batsmen on a slow pitch. They did very well to restrict CSK to a meagre 140 runs but this time, the batsmen failed to capitalize on the opportunity given to them on a platter to score winning points. Nayar and Rahane once again couldn’t provide a solid opening stand; Samson and Watson, who had done well against Punjab with their half-centuries, couldn’t repeat their brilliance with the bat and the middle order staggered. It was a dismal effort as they lost the close contest by 7 runs with the batsmen giving up very easily; the players need to do some confidence building here as this crucial match against Bangalore could well be their turning point.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
The team suffered a shocking loss against KKR, thanks to the phenomenal last over catch by Chris Lynn at the boundary to dismiss AB de Villiers, resulting in a 2-run defeat. However, the players are in good form and just need to continue playing positive cricket. Varun Aaron has been stupendous with his pace attack, clocking exceptional speeds like 153 kph and in the last match against KKR, he claimed 3 important wickets to demolish the middle order and stifled them by giving away just 16 runs. Starc contributed with 2 wickets while Morkel and Chahal provided breakthroughs by claiming a wicket each; they bowled tight to keep the pressure on the opponents and did well to restrict KKR to 150 runs. They made some changes in the batting order, sending Patel to open along with newcomer Takawale, who scored 40 off 28 balls and the duo put up a 67-run partnership before getting out. Kohli and Yuvraj looked good to chase till the end and finish the job, but both were dismissed on 31 runs; de Villiers still provided hope but the sensational catch by Chris Lynn at the ropes stopped them from closing in. The defeat would surely have hurt them, but they need to bounce back with the same vigour once again.
Will Rajasthan make a comeback, taking advantage of Bangalore’s latest defeat that would’ve dampened their spirits or can Bangalore brush aside this loss and make amends? While the bowlers from both sides have similar talents, Bangalore has a stronger batting line-up that looks confident to lead them to victory here.
