About the Match
The Royals stand tall with 10 points and continue to lead the pack even though they lost a scintillating match against Kings XI in the super over; they will face Royal Challengers, who have only 2 points on 24th April at Ahmedabad. Royals have been consistent and are eager to dominate with their winning strategy; RCB on the other hand suffered defeat against CSK and are looking for a change in their fortunes with a win here on Friday.
They lost their last match against Kings XI Punjab in the super over; earlier, the batsmen posted 191 in a bid to maintain their unbeaten run in the IPL. A sensational 74 from Rahane and a solid 45 from Watson gave them a blistering start. On the bowling front, Pravin Tambe, who yet again proved his worth with his path of flight and guile, was rewarded with a wicket. Rahul Tewatia too played a part by claiming a key wicket but the opponents drew level and went on to dominate the one-over eliminator. In their 5th match, Rahane’s heroic 76 off 55 and Watson’s superb 73 off 47 helped the team achieve an 8-wicket win over CSK. Rajasthan Royals are a settled unit with players like Rahane, who is the tournament’s leading run-getter so far and Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda and Karun Nair. If things go wrong, they have the unstoppable Steven Smith, followed by James Faulkner and Chris Morris in the lower order. With the ball, Tambe continues to pick wickets while Chris Morris has broken several partnerships; Faulkner has been successful too and provides enough firepower to beat any team and win more matches.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
They slumped to their third consecutive loss against CSK by 27 runs after failing to chase down the target of 182 with only Kohli playing a fine 51 from 42. On the bowling front, Chahal and Abdulla came back rather well as they picked up 5 wickets between them; Mitchell Starc also made an impact by bowling in a parsimonious manner. They lost their third match against Mumbai Indians after a spirited effort by AB de Villiers who smashed 41 runs off only 11 balls while David Wiese’s unbeaten 47 off 25 kept them in the hunt but they failed to reach their target. Overall, RCB team has many explosive batsmen like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik and David Wiese, who can turn the game single-handedly. With the return of Mitchell Starc, their bowling looks solid; handy all-rounder Chahal has been the most impressive bowler so far and RCB desperately need Starc to make a mark as they cannot afford any more losses. Royal Challengers are aiming to turn the tide after back-back to losses but the players need to come out all guns blazing if they want to stay in the competition.
Both sides have explosive batsmen but Rajasthan Royals have been performing superbly compared to Royal Challengers, who are yet to show their strengths. While Royals have the home advantage and go in as favorites, RCB will fight hard to put a stop to their dismal outings and I think that Rajasthan Royals will be too much force for challengers to deal with.
