About the Match
Comilla Victorians defeated Chittagong Vikings in their last match by a thumping 8 wickets and have accumulated 2 points; they stand in the 3rd position and will take on Rajshahi Kings, who are yet to win a game and have zero points, on 12th November at Dhaka. While the Victorians suffered defeat against Sylhet Sixers in their opening game by 4 wickets, they managed a comeback with an all-around performance against the Vikings. Rajshahi Kings have lost both games till now and will try to redeem themselves with a win here.
Chasing 206 runs against Sylhet Sixers proved to be an uphill climb for the batting line-up as players like Rony Talukdar and Samit Patel were dismissed for ducks before the 10th over. Openers Luke Wright posted a well-made half-century while Mominul Haque played a supporting hand, scoring 24 off 16. Later, James Franklin contributed with 35 off 23 but it wasn’t enough to get them through. Earlier, Franklin had taken a wicket too along with other speedsters Kesrick Williams and Farhad Reza; but others like Hossain Ali and Mehidy Hasan gave away easy runs.
In the opening match against Rangpur Riders, Talukdar had done well to post 47 runs while Franklin and captain Darren Sammy contributed with 20+ runs each. However, others like Luke Wright, Mushfiqur Rahim, Patel and Mominul Haque failed to impress with the bat and they could muster only 154 batting first. Spinner Mehidy Hasan provided one breakthrough while fast-bowlers Williams, Franklin, and Reza dismissed one opponent each; however, they couldn’t stop the Riders from scoring the winning runs.
They are yet to taste success this season and will be motivated to make a comeback with a win in this game; they have good resources at hand and could try to upset the Victorians’ momentum.
A power-packed batting performance against the Vikings took them to their first victory of the season in the last game; Jos Buttler top-scored with 48 off 42 while Liton Das scored 23 from 14 deliveries. Imrul Kayes and Marlon Samuels pitched in with 30+ runs each and they comfortably reached the target of 144 with more than 2 overs to spare. Earlier, the Pacers had a field day as Mohammad Saifuddin claimed 3-24 and Dwayne Bravo dismissed 2 opponents. Al-Amin Hossain also did well with the fastball while spinner Mohammad Nabi claimed one wicket to restrict the Vikings to 143. The massive victory by 8 wickets has surely boosted their morale and they will be geared up for the challenge here.
Batting first against Sylhet Sixers, they could muster only 145 runs in the opening match. Although Marlon Samuels put up a stunning show by scoring 60 from 47 deliveries, others like Nabi and Buttler were out quickly on single digits. Alok Kapali pitched in with 26 off 19 while Liton Das did well in the top-order; however, the bowlers failed to defend 145 despite a good show by spinner Rashid Khan and pacer Dwayne Bravo, who took 3 wickets between them.
They are a strong unit with match-winners like Buttler, Bravo, Nabi and Samuels; if they can build a solid foundation whether batting first or during chase, then the game could be theirs.
The contest could swing either way between Rajshahi Kings and Comilla Victorians on Sunday; however, we feel that Victorians with their recent win are in better form to win again.
