About the Match
Rajshahi Kings suffered yet another defeat, this time against Comilla Victorians by 9 wickets and they continue to be at the bottom of the table with just 2 points. The Kings will go up against Sylhet Sixers, who stand tall at the top position with 7 points, on 17th November at Dhaka. The Sixers’ last match against Titans was abandoned due to rain; they will be eager to repeat their winning performance against Kings, whom they defeated earlier by 33 runs. It needs to be seen if Rajshahi Kings can make a much-needed comeback with a win here.
Batting first against Victorians, they could muster only 115 runs in the last match. Lendl Simmons top-scored with 40 off 23 while Mushfiqur Rahim and Farhad Reza in the lower order tried to keep the runs flowing. However, others like Rony Talukdar, Mominul Haque, James Franklin and Mehidy Hasan couldn’t make an impact. With the ball too, they proved to be expensive and Farhad Reza was the lone wicket-taker. They couldn’t stop the Victorians from hitting the winning runs in the 16th over.
They defeated Rangpur Riders last week after successfully chasing down 135 runs thanks to a power-packed opening partnership by Lendl Simmons and Mominul Haque. While Simmons posted a well-made 53, Haque remained unbeaten at 63 off 44 and steered the team to a fine victory by 8 wickets. Speedster Farhad Reza picked up 2 wickets while spinner Mehidy Hasan took 1-19. Kesrick Williams and James Franklin supported well with the pace, taking a wicket each to restrict Riders to 134.
They have lost previously to Sixers by 33 runs after failing to chase down a gigantic total of 206; they will try to put their best foot forward here to make amends and start climbing up the points table.
After a string of victories, Sylhet Sixers suffered a massive defeat against Dhaka Dynamites in their last match after getting all-out for a meagre 101 runs batting first. Top-order batsmen like Sabbir Rahman, Upul Tharanga and captain Nasir Hossain fell quickly with hardly any runs on board. Danushka Gunathilaka failed to build a foundation and was out at 15; Abul Hasan fought to revive the innings and posted an unbeaten 30 but they could get to 101 only. The bowlers found it difficult to stop the opposition from winning the match despite fast-bowler Tim Bresnan’s 2-20.
Against Kings in an earlier match, the batsmen had come out all guns blazing to post 205 runs; Upul Tharanga smashed 50 off 37 while Andre Fletcher, Gunathilaka, and Ross Whitely kept the tempo up by scoring 48, 42 and 25 runs respectively. Fast-bowlers Abul Hasan and Liam Plunkett provided 3 wickets each to stifle the opponents and they comfortably won the match by 33 runs.
The Sixers have done well till now to reach the top position in the league; they will be motivated to bounce back with a win here on Friday.
The two teams have met each other in the beginning of the season and the Sixers have the psychological advantage of having won then. However, we feel that Rajshahi Kings who are desperate for a win will make a good comeback and are likely to emerge victorious.
