About the Match
The Bulls defeated Raj Kings by 17 runs to gain a total of 8 points; they now stand 6th and will take on Riders, who are placed 5th with 10 points, on 3rd December at Dhaka. The Riders recently suffered defeat at the hands of Dynamites after failing to chase down a stiff target of 189 runs and losing the match by 42 runs; they will be eager to improve their standings on the table and make it to the top-four. The Bulls who were on a losing streak, have received a morale boost from the recent consolation win; it needs to be seen if they can repeat the good performance here on Saturday.
The batting line-up collapsed yet again during the chase for 189 against Dynamites; middle-order batsman Ziaur Rahman fought a lone battle scoring 60 off 48 while Sohag Gazi contributed well with 36 from 26 but their efforts went in vain and they lost the match by a massive 42 runs. Earlier speedsters Rubel Hossain, Ziaur Rahman and Soumya Sarkar took regular wickets while bowling but the others gave away too many runs; they have good depth in pace which can outwit opponents.
In the match against Raj Kings, the spinners put up a splendid show as Arafat Sunny, Afridi and Dawson took 6 wickets between them to restrict the opposition to 128 runs. However, the batsmen disappointed as they fell like a pack of cards, getting all-out for a meagre 79 to lose the match.
Players like Mohammad Mithun, Afridi, Mohammad Shahzad and Soumya Sarkar who did well in the initial stage, have not been able to fire with the bat but can bounce back in the upcoming match. They have good resources with bat and ball who can help the team go back to their winning ways.
Dawid Malan came back to form by hitting a superb 56 off 33 deliveries batting first against Raj Kings; Fazle Mahmud contributed well with a run-a-ball 43 while Perera and Nafees kept the scoreboard ticking to take the total to 161 runs. Rayad Emrit then struck gold with a figure of 3-27, helping the team defend the target; he got good support from Monir Hossain, Enamul Haque, Perera and Rabbi who took one scalp each to restrict the opponents to 144 and win the match.
In the previous match against Victorians, the usual power hitters like Malan, Chowdhury, Nafees and Mushfiqur Rahim had failed to build a solid foundation, and they were able to muster only 142 runs batting first. The speedsters then gave away easy runs while the spinners couldn’t find a lucky break; although Malan and Raees took a wicket each, it wasn’t enough to win the match.
The Bulls have faced defeat against Riders earlier but they will be determined to cleverly use the resources this time and avenge that loss; with a good strategy and focused execution, they can surely turn around things from here on.
The Riders had won the contest by 12 runs when they faced Bulls the last time but the batting line-up has not been performing up to expectations recently; the Bulls on the other hand, come here at the back of a win and seem to be better placed to win this round on Saturday
