About the Match
Having won their opening match against Rajshahi Kings by 6 wickets, Rangpur Riders are in the third place with 2 points and will take on Chittagong Vikings in the 7th Match of the BPL T20 series at Sylhet on 8th November. The Vikings will be playing their first game of the season and will be eager to kick-start with a win here on Wednesday. The Riders on the other hand, displayed an all-round performance with bat and ball, and would fight hard to keep the winning momentum going. It needs to be seen which team can rise to the challenge and outwit the other on the field here.
They have a strong batting line-up with players like Mohammad Mithun, who scored 46 off 33 against the Kings in the last game, Shahriar Nafees, who posted 35 runs, and Ravi Bopara, who pitched in with a well-made 39 off just 23, to help them chase down 155 runs. Thisara Perera, the Sri Lankan all-rounder also adds depth to the batting contingent along with others like Johnson Charles and Adam Lyth.
The bowling department consists of the experienced pacer Lasith Malinga and the talented spinner Nazmul Islam, who each took 2 wickets in the last game. Other speedsters like Rubel Hossain, captain Mashrafe Mortaza, Ravi Bopara and spinners Sohag Gazi add variety to the attack. They also have spinners like Abdur Razzak and Samuel Badree, who can topple the opponents with their precision.
They combined well to restrict Rajshahi Kings to 154 runs, and went on to successfully gun down the target in less than 19 overs. They are a talented side and could pose to be a tough challenge to Vikings here on Wednesday.
With experienced batsmen like Misbah-ul-Haq, Luke Ronchi, Sikandar Raza and in-form players like Soumya Sarkar, the Vikings could do well to set a solid foundation whether batting first or during a chase. They have other talents like Jermaine Blackwood, Liam Dawson, Anamul Haque, Najibullah Zadran and Dilshan Munaweera, who add depth to the line-up.
Bowlers like Yasir Arafat from Pakistan, Taskin Ahmed, Subashis Roy and all-rounders Jeevan Mendis, Al-Amin and Sunzamul Islam can mix up their skills to outwit the Riders here. Spinner Shuhrawadi Shuvo can pull out some tricks from up his sleeve to stun the opposition and can help strengthen the team’s spin strategy this season.
Misbah-ul-Haq will lead the side and brings years of expertise in the game; he has good resources at hand, who can put up their best foot forward. Overall, they are a motivated lot and having reached the finals in 2013, they will be eager to do one better this time around.
The match could sway either side as both teams have strong match-winners, who will leave no stone unturned to win. Rangpur Riders have the psychological advantage here having won their opening game; however, we feel that Chittagong Vikings with their batting strength and a mean pace attack, is better placed to emerge victorious
