About the Match
Rangpur Riders have climbed to the top spot in the league after defeating Khulna Titans by 7 wickets to garner a total of 10 points; they will take on Raj Kings, who are placed 6th with 4 points, on 25th November at Dhaka. The Kings too saw a change of fortune as they defeated Dynamites by 3 wickets to gain two more points; they will be eager to continue with their winning momentum here. Riders have won three consecutive matches and will be determined to keep their winning streak going; it needs to be seen which side can keep a cool head above its shoulders and emerge victorious here.
The bowlers combined well to restrict Titans to 125 runs in the last game; Robel Hossain used his pace skills to take 2-19 while spinners Afridi and Arafat Sunny took 2 wickets each. Sohag Gazi bowled brilliantly, stifling the opponents by giving away just 6 runs in 2 overs. The in-form batsmen Mohammad Shahzad and Mohammad Mithun then started the chase positively, scoring 37 and 49 runs respectively while Afridi posted 26 runs to steer the team across the finish line with ease.
In the match against Victorians, the bowlers restricted the opposition to 122, which the batsmen chased down successfully thanks to Shahzad’s well-made half-century and Mithun’s 45 off 39 balls. Soumya Sarkar, Afridi and Liam Dawson add depth to the middle order and can help keep the scoreboard ticking.
They are taking on Raj Kings for the first time this season but with the recent streak of victories, will be supercharged with bat and ball to dominate the opponents yet again.
Chasing a stiff target of 183 runs against Dynamites, Mominul Haque and Sami Patel stuck their feet firmly on the ground and pushed their team towards a thrilling victory with good contributions by Mehedi Hasan and Farhad Reza, who scored the winning runs. While Mominul Haque posted a superb 56 off 42, Patel’s brilliant 75 from just 39 deliveries gave them the required boost.
Earlier, the bowlers had proved to be costly as spinner Mehedi Hasan and fast-bowler Abul Hasan gave more than 10 runs per over; speedster Farhad Reza took 2-22 and showcased his all-rounder skills, contributing well with the bat too. Pakistani fast-bowler Mohammad Sami claimed 1 wicket and was the most economical of the lot.
Against Victorians, the bowlers did well to restrict the opposition to 152 runs but the batting line-up collapsed during chase; except Mominul Haque’s 53 off 43, the others failed to impress and lost the match by a massive 32 runs, handing out to the defending champions their first victory this season. Batsmen like Sabbir Rahman, Umar Akmal, Sammy and Nurul Hasan were dismissed for single digits, and they were all-out for just 120. Their recent victory would surely have boosted their morale, and they can try to come out with all their firepower here to defeat the high-flying Riders.
Raj Kings have proved their mettle by defeating a strong team like Dynamites recently; although they have good resources with bat and ball, we feel that the Riders with 3 straight wins are clearly the favourites here to win the match on Friday.
