RIR vs RPR Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jan 02, 2020

We haven't seen many upset stories in this edition of Bangladesh Premier League so far and the recently concluded match between Rajshahi Royals and Rangpur Rangers was one such story. The two teams set to meet each other once again in the tournament and the excitement will be immense when they take field. The two teams will lock horns on the second day of new year and they both would love to have a happy beginning to the year. Considering that the Royals are one of the best teams in the tournament and the Rangers have done exceedingly well in their last two matches, including a win over the Royals, it is likely to be another exciting contest of the tournament.

RIR vs RPR Team Previews

Rajshahi Royals

Having a forgetful start to the tournament and being amidst the controversies, Rangpur Rangers have had a sorry tournament thus far. For most part, they were placed at the bottom of the ladder, but a couple of back to back wins in their last two matches has pushed them to the seventh spot. However, they still have a pretty poor net run-rate of -0.988, which could come back to bite them should it get tight in the back-end of the competition.

Their batting was a bit inconsistent before Shane Watson took charge of the team. Against the Royals, Mohammad Naim got them off to a flying start with useful contributions coming from Cameron Delport and Lewis Gregory. They suffered a bit of setback with Gregory, Nabi, and Fazle Mahmud getting dismissed cheaply, but little yet quick and useful contributions from Al Amin and Jaharul Islam ensured that they put a sizeable total on the board.

Despite a total of 182 runs on the board, it was not going be an easy second half against the powerful batting lineup of Rajshahi Royals. Arafat Sunny and Mustafizur Rahman were brilliant upfront as they didn't allow the opening pair of Liton Das and Afif Hossain any breathing space whatsoever. Despite the slow start, the Royals were pretty much in the business till the eighth over, before they lost wickets in a chunk with Taskin Ahmed being the chief architect of the damage. Mohammad Nabi and Lewis Gregory played the perfect second-fiddle to Taskin. Taskin Ahmed picked up four wickets and both Gregory and Nabi contributed with three wicket between them.

In the last two matches, the Rangers seem to have their rhythm back. They looked listless in their first six matches, but with two back to back wins to their name, they have the momentum and are looking as dangerous as any. As was the case in the last encounter, they are going to present a stiff challenge to the Royals.

In their last match, which was against the Rangers, both their batsmen as well as the bowlers failed to fire as they lost the match by a significant margin of 47 runs. In their previous match, they were bundled out for a total of just 100 while chasing 174. With Andre Russell not doing particularly well with the bat, their struggle of chasing or setting big totals is apparent. The likes of Shoaib Malik and Ravi Bopara looked out of sorts in both the previous matches. All in all, the Royals still have one of the most dangerous sides of the tournament on paper and they are more than capable of toppling any side when in form.

RIR vs RPR Betting Tips

The Rangers have certainly managed to turn things around for them with back to back wins in their last two matches and will be looking to get closer to the playoff spot. The Royals, on the contrary, have managed to lose the position of superiority with back to back losses. Considering the form of the two sides, the Rangers are certainly a better team. As evident in their previous match, they also have a batting lineup that goes deep and a versatile bowling attack. They are our pick to emerge the upcoming encounter of Bangladesh Premier League 2019.
