About the Match
With only 6 points, Supergiants have been kicked out of the tournament after failing to win crucial matches; they will take on Daredevils, who are placed 5th on the table with 12 points in their bag, on 17th May at Pune. The Delhi team suffered a major setback to their campaign when they lost to Mumbai Indians by a massive 80 runs after failing to chase down a competitive total of 207; they will be eager to make it to the top four with a last-minute push by winning the match on Tuesday.
Rising Pune Supergiants
Rain played havoc on Supergiants in their match against KKR and they could muster only 103 runs in 17.4 overs batting first; with the opposition’s target reduced to 66 from 9 overs, the bowlers came under intense pressure and lost the match by 8 wickets. The loss has led to their ouster from the IPL but they will look to redeem themselves with a win here against Daredevils, whom they have defeated earlier by 7 wickets.
In the earlier match against Daredevils, Rahane’s superb unbeaten 63 and a steady run-flow by the middle order helped them clinch victory by successfully chasing down 164 runs with 5 balls to spare. Rajat Bhatia and Boland had claimed 2 wickets each to stifle the opposition while speedster Dinda had taken a wicket to help restrict the Daredevils to 162. Khawaja, Saurabh Tiwary and Dhoni had all contributed well with the bat to support Rahane and win the match.
They have a good bowling attack with spinners and pacemen doing their job of taking wickets consistently; if the batting line-up can yet again come out all guns blazing, they can surely me it a tough fight for the opponents to stay alive.
Chasing 207 runs, the top-order collapsed like a pack of cards with players like Agarwal, Nair and Samson all getting out for single digits; although Quinton de Kock fought hard by posting a well-made 40 off 28 and Rishabh Pant along with Morris tried to revive the innings, they were all-out for just 126 on board by the start of the last over. Bowlers were ineffective as Imran Tahir gave away 15 runs per over; Morris, Zaheer Khan and Amit Mishra took 4 wickets between them but couldn’t restrict the opponents from coming out with all their firepower.
Against Sunrisers, the bowlers were stupendous as they took regular wickets and contained the run-flow of the opponents; Nathan Coulter-Nile and Mishra took 2 wickets each while Morris, Shami and Yadav claimed a wicket each to restrict Sunrisers to 146 runs. Quinton yet again delivered massive blows against the hosts, scoring 44 from 31 balls while Samson and Pant contributed with 30+ runs each to steer the team towards victory by 7 wickets.
They have a sturdy batting line-up and an in-form bowling attack; they will need to rise above their weaknesses to stupefy Supergiants here on Tuesday and keep their campaign alive.
Supergiants have nothing to lose here and they will definitely try to make it difficult for Daredevils; on the other hand, the young batsmen from Delhi are in good shape to counter the Pune bowlers and we expect Daredevils to emerge victorious in this crucial game
