About the Match
This match is very important for the Rajshahi Kings as they attempt to claw their way back into contention from the second last place on the league table. Their opponents for this game, the Khulna Titans have been exhilarating on occasion and absolutely exasperating on others.
Can the Kings repeat some of the magic that saw them make a remarkable comeback from a similar position last year?
The fact that the Kings are struggling majorly this season can be gauged from the changes they have made in their batting order. Multiple opening combinations have been tried, players have been drafted in and out constantly, and even the players in the eleven have no idea of where they will be batting.
As a result, only one batsman has scored more than a hundred runs in this tournament. Mominul Haque has 156 runs to his name from six innings with one fifty to his name. His strike rate of 118.18 is pretty disappointing, though, considering his position at the top of the order.
There is also no one in the team that has shown the ability to clear the boundary with consistency this season. Mominul Haque has seven sixes to his name, the most for the team, which is paltry compared to the number some of the teams have been racking up.
The overseas players, James Franklin, Samit Patel, Darren Sammy, and Kersick Williams have been struggling to find their best form as well.
It is difficult to see the Kings mount a comeback in this tournament because not a single aspect of their game looks to be going right. The Rajshahi Kings have to hope for some combined brilliance from their international players otherwise they could spiral quickly into irrelevance this season.
Three wins from five competed matches help reflect some of the inconsistency that the Khulan Titans have shown in this tournament so far. Their last match against the Vikings, though, seemed to be a turning point of sorts as they finally got their batting order right.
Rilee Rossouw and Michael Klinger at the top of the order make for a terrific combination and we really hope that the Khulna Titans give this duo an extended run. Rossow scored his highest score of the competition to take his tally to 150 runs for the tournament.
Mahmudullah has also had a productive season with 133 runs but it is Craig Braithwaite that has stumped his critics by making the most of his batting opportunities down the order. 12 sixes, three not outs from five innings, a total of 127 runs, and a strike rate of 204.83 are all astonishing numbers.
The loss of Joffra Archer could make things difficult for the Titans as he was a vital part of their attack. Their spearhead remains the most impressive young local player of the year, Abu Jayed with 10 wickets to his name.
Kyle Abbott may have had a rough entry into the competition but expect him to bounce back strongly as well.
Pitch and Conditions
Mirpur continues to be a mixed bag in terms of the pitches being offered but more sluggishness, spin, and a difficulty in scoring runs with the old ball can be expected. The weather is expected to be clear, sunny and perfect for cricket.
