About the Match
Rockstars have suffered two straight defeats and are yet to open their points tally; they will face Bellary Tuskers, who are also at zero points, on 23rd September at Hubballi. In their last outing, Rockstars lost the match against Mangalore by 53 runs while Bellary lost the match against Hubli by 7 wickets. Both teams are at the bottom of the table and will be eager to garner two points from a win here on Friday; while Rockstars lost their recent contests by a huge margin, Tuskers came quite close to winning the matches but are yet to taste success this season.
While the bowlers gave away too many runs against Mangalore, the batting line-up too put up a dismal performance chasing down the gigantic target of 195 runs and lost by 53 runs. Bhatkal was the lone fighter in the middle order and he scored a well-made 49 from 32; Teja and Mohan tried to contribute with the runs but they fell quick prey to Ronit More in the 10th over. Earlier, Naveen, Bhatkal and Teja provided a dismissal each, but they couldn’t contain the run-flow of the opposition.
In the match against Mysuru, Aiyappa was able to dismiss two batsmen but he proved to be expensive; chasing 220 runs was a tough task ad although Rajeev posted a superb 51 off 23 balls, they lost the match by a huge margin of 113 runs.
Although they have good variety in the bowling squad, they haven’t been able to put up economical spells till now. With better focus and a strong game plan, they can surely try to outwit the Tuskers.
Batting first against Hubli Tigers, openers Kadam and Pawan were able to post superb 101-runs stand but the others down the line couldn’t build steady partnerships, and they could muster 164 runs in the end. Pacers Prasidh Krishna and Akhil took a wicket each but gave away too many easy runs; spinner Amit Verma provided a crucial breakthrough but the others failed to impress and they couldn’t stop Hubli from winning the match.
Against Shivamogga too, the opponent’s target was reduced to 159 runs from 16 overs after rains delayed the match; although spinner Anil took 3-37, Tuskers lost the match by 4 wickets. Earlier, Pawan had done well to post 42 off 36 while others like Raju, Akhil, Amit Verma and Manjunath contributed well with the bat to take the total to 169 runs.
The batting line-up is deep with plenty of all-rounders raring to showcase their abilities here; with a good spin combination, they can try to demolish the Rockstars and register a much-needed win.
Although both teams are yet to win a match here, they do have resources to bounce back on Friday and will be determined to do so; while Rockstars will try to put up a tough fight, we feel that Bellary Tuskers who have performed better than Rockstars in comparison, can emerge victorious on Friday
