About the Match
The Daredevils were desperate for a win and just as we predicted,
they achieved it in a brilliant way against Kings XI Punjab by an 8-wicket victory; they will now face Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have won their first match against Sunrisers and stand second on the table, on 17th April at Bangalore. It was an all-round effort by the Delhi team as they restricted Punjab to 111 runs and went on to chase it smoothly; RCB on the other hand, amassed 227 runs batting first against Sunrisers and defended it well to win by 45 runs. Both teams will now try to continue with their winning momentum on Sunday to climb up the table.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Kohli’s superb form continued here as he charged to 75 off 51 to get the scoreboard ticking along with AB de Villiers at the other end; the duo put up a stupendous 157-run partnership for the 2nd wicket against SRH with AB de Villiers scoring 82 from just 42 balls.
Sarfaraz Khan was brilliant with his quick fire 35 off just 10 balls to push the total to 227 in the end; Shane Watson and Yuzvendra showed the way with spin as they took 2 wickets each while Rasool and Milne claimed a wicket each to restrict Sunrisers to 182 runs.
The victory was a phenomenal one and they surely have done their homework on getting the right mix and balance in the team; while the batting line-up has greats like Chris Gayle, Kohli and AB de Villiers, the bowling department looks sturdy with experience and young talent. It needs to be seen if Kohli can continue with his form and lead the team to greater heights in the upcoming matches.
Amit Mishra was the hero of the day as he struck with 4-11 to demolish the Kings Xi batting line-up; his superb performance with legbreaks provided regular wickets and along with support from Jayant Yadav, the young spinner and speedsters Zaheer Khan and Chris Morris, the Daredevils restricted the opponents to a lowly 111. Quinton de Kock came out all guns blazing to start the chase solidly along with hard-hitter Sanju Samson; while Quinton scored an unbeaten 59 off 42, Samson contributed with 33 runs to help steer the team to their first victory by 8 wickets.
In the match against KKR, the batting line-up succumbed to a superior bowling attack and they could muster only 98 runs batting first; the experienced Zaheer Khan was helpless with a dismal batting performance and there was nothing the bowlers could do to save the game.
However, on home turf, they have proven to be a strong team and can definitely do well in the upcoming game down south; the batting line-up mainly consists of youngsters like Mayank Agarwal, Shreyas Iyer, Karun Nair, Samson and Quinton de Kock but they can be fierce on the field when situation demands. Amit Mishra continues to be the lead wicket-taker for the team and along with strong bowlers like Nathan Coulter Nile, captain Zaheer Khan, Chris Morris and others, Daredevils can put up a tough challenge to the hosts on Sunday.
Although Daredevils received a major morale boost from their victory, they have another uphill climb here against Royal Challengers, who have the home advantage and a superior batting line-up. The contest could go down to the wire, but we feel RCB is better placed to emerge victorious
