About the Match
The Royal Challengers have 9 points from 9 matches and are placed 3rd on the table; they will go up against Kings XI, who are at the bottom of the table with just have 4 points from 9 matches on 6th May at Bangalore. RCB are low on confidence after their loss against CSK but they have the ability to bounce back; KXIP on the other side haven’t been able to revive their campaign and one more defeat will mean an end to their chances of making it to the play-offs. The match will be very interesting as both the teams will perform to their best to try and grab 2 valuable points on Wednesday.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers suffered defeat against CSK by 24 runs in a poor show as the batsmen failed to chase down the modest total of 148, getting bundled out at 124 in 19.4 overs. Virat Kohli smashed 48 off 44 while Dinesh Karthik scored 23 off 20 but later the batting line-up collapsed totally. On the bowling front, Mitchell Starc registered figures of 3-24 in as RCB managed to restrict CSK to 148; David Wiese and Harshal Patel took 2 wickets each but the batsmen failed to deliver. They won their previous match against KKR by 7 wickets as Mandeep Singh blasted an unbeaten 45 off just 18 balls at the back of crunching knocks by Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli; RCB overcame their formidable foes in a thriller to clinch victory. Overall their batting looks strong with Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers having done the bulk of scoring, with the likes of Sarfaraz Khan, Mandeep Singh and David Wiese chipping in consistently. On the bowling front, the arrival of Mitchell Starc has provided RCB some spark and overall, they have the guts and strength to challenge any team to make it to the qualifying play-offs.
Kings XI Punjab
Kings XI Punjab once again suffered defeat, this time against Mumbai Indians by 23 runs after failing to chase down the competitive total of 173. It was another poor batting display by the team with Murali Vijay and David Miller being the only notable mentions. Prior to that, they had received hammering at the hands of Delhi Daredevils batsmen on Saturday and lost their match by 9 wickets. David Miller scored 42 off 41 but many other batsmen were out at single digits. However, George Bailey believes his team can still turn it around, and their next encounter against RCB, will provide them a final chance at redemption. But the top-ordered batting has been in shambles with Virender Sehwag and Manan Vohra not yet coming to form. Add to that Glenn Maxwell’s poor form, the misery is complete for KXIP. The middle order has been put under immense pressure and the bowling has suffered as a consequence; however, they will definitely overcome their weaknesses and try to win all the upcoming matches.
It could be a tough fight between RCB and KXIP as for the latter it’s a now or never kind of situation; they remain an inconsistent side with their top order having failed in chasing targets or setting a competitive total. RCB on the other hand, looks to be a formidable side with a balanced squad and we feel that the hosts are better placed to win the upcoming match
