About the Match
RCB has suffered three consecutive defeats and are desperate for a win now; they will push themselves harder against Supergiants in the upcoming match at Bangalore on 7th May. While the visitors come here at the back of a win against Daredevils and have 6 points, RCB will draw inspiration from the fact that they have defeated the Supergiants once before and try to repeat the winning performance. With only 4 points till now, the hosts are placed 7th on the table while Supergiants are placed 6th and will leave no stone unturned to continue with their winning momentum.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Gayle is back in action and Kohli, Rahul and AB de Villiers continue to go strong with their batting form; however, RCB will have to make amends in their overall approach to dominating the opponent on the field. In the game against KKR, the bowlers yet again fell short in defending a tall target of 185 set by the batsmen. Chahal was the most economical with a figure of 2-27 while Binny and Aravind contributed with a wicket each; however, the others gave away too many runs and they couldn’t outwit the Kolkata batsmen thereby losing the match by 5 wickets.
Against Sunrisers too they suffered a heart-wrenching defeat wherein the batsmen failed to chase down a challenging target of 195 runs. Rahul posted a superb 51 off just 28 deliveries while AB de Villiers came close to finishing another half-century; however, Kohli and Watson failed to fire and they lost wickets at regular pace, falling short in the end by 15 runs. Earlier, the bowlers were too expensive and although Richardson, Watson and Shamsi took 4 wickets between them, they couldn’t stop SRH from keeping the scoreboard moving.
They have a strong batting line-up but they need to be consistent; the bowlers have their work cut out for them and must pull up their socks to turn opportunities into wins from here on.
Rising Pune Supergiants
They registered another successful chase, this time against Daredevils and won the match by 7 wickets thanks to a tremendous show by Rahane, who scored an unbeaten 63 off 48 balls to steer the team safely home. Khawaja, Saurabh Tiwary, Dhoni and Perera came together to keep the scoreboard ticking; earlier, the speedsters Rajat Bhatia and Boland dealt blows to the opposition, claiming 2 wickets each while Dinda took a wicket with his pace skills and helped restrict Delhi to 162.
When they had met RCB earlier at home, Supergiants had failed to fire from all cylinders ending up on the losing side; with 186-run target to chase, the batting line-up had collapsed like a pack of cards and despite Rahane’s 60 off 46 and others like Dhoni, Perera and Bhatia contributing well, they fell short by 13 runs. Perera was the lone wicket-taker in that match, claiming 3-34 but the others couldn’t contain the hard-hitting RCB.
Supergiants have had a mixed run so far and they will be determined to avenge their defeat here but they will have to come out all guns blazing if batting first.
RCB is in a critical situation and they need a win now; on the other hand, Supergiants made a comeback with its recent victory and will be hungry for more points as it again will be a do-or-die game for them. Toss could play a crucial role once again and the team batting second will have an advantage as evident from what has happened in the IPL so far. The match could see a tough contest between RCB batsmen and Supergiants bowlers but we feel the visitors, with the recently gained momentum will manage to secure a win on Saturday
