About the Match
The first encounter between the two teams, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad, is scheduled to be held on 4th May at Bangalore; both teams have 4 points from 5 matches each and currently not very comfortable with their performances. The only difference between them being the NRR with Bangalore slightly better off; the two wins of RCB came in the beginning of the tournament whereas the Sunrisers lost their initial ties but are improving and are in a better frame of mind. Both teams will be eager to start this phase of the IPL on a winning note and it could be anybody’s game here.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
It’s a home ground match for RCB and they will be under tremendous pressure to perform; with a reckless and inept batting display by the top order that has been a bane for the team, Kohli and his team need some introspection to redeem their reputation. While there’s still time, they cannot take any team for granted and have to identify the winning methods in each situation by putting their heads together. Their defeat against Kings XI has been quite humiliating and should take it as a wakeup call; the top order needs to defend their wickets while maintaining a steady run rate at least till 10 overs instead of throwing away their wickets. AB de Villiers and Yuvraj are capable of stepping up the run rate towards the end to set an imposing target. They have a good battery of bowlers who can create inroads into the opposition with Starc, Morkel, Dinda and Aaron, who have been delivering well to defend a reasonable total; Chahal and Yuvraj are also rendering commendable support with their slow deliveries. The team needs to put together their strengths and deliver from here on.
Their thumping win against the Mumbai Indians by 15 runs after setting a target of 172 has boosted their confidence and they would not like to lose the momentum; Shikhar Dhawan had a patchy performance, opening the innings whereas Finch has been consistent holding one end, establishing reasonable partnerships. Warner and Rahul fit well in the middle order by increasing the run-rate without putting undue pressure on the tail to perform with the bat. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Steyn are bowling economically and responsible for important dismissals in every match with Sammy and Irfan inflicting casualties at the right time. Karn Sharma and Mishra with their disguising slow deliveries have been breaking the mounting partnerships of the opposition; the team is clicking well as a combined unit to achieve success and with an all-round performance will be able to change fortunes.
Both teams are equally equipped in all departments and both have the will to perform and are a determined lot. They will try and improve their standing in the points table and it will be an interesting cricketing feast for the fans at Bangalore, where a win to the home team looks more likely.
