RR vs RCB Match Prediction - Apr 05, 2022

We are just a week into the Indian Premier League and have seen some cracking contests already. Much to the surprise of many, two of the most successful sides in the history of the competition - Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, currently occupy the bottom spots on the ladder. It could all change pretty quickly but those two sides would have to pull up their socks and get back in what is going to be an ultra-competitive tournament, at least that is what the early cues suggest.

On the other side of the ladder are Rajasthan Royals, who have been one of the better-performing sides in the competition. They will be up against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in a rivalry that may be in its infancy but promises to be a big one beginning this year. Both sides are coming off wins in their respective last matches and will be brimming with confidence. We expect a feast of an outing for the fans in this Royal contest.

The match between the two Royals is to be played at the iconic venue of the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, 5th March 2022.

RR vs RCB Team Previews

Rajasthan Royals

Two wins in two matches and the men in Pink would already be brimming with confidence. With a massive win over Mumbai Indians, they became the only side to twice defend a total in this edition of the tournament and that is something that has been very difficult to achieve even once.

The Royals' secret to success in the two matches thus far has undoubtedly been their power-hitting at the top coupled with some exemplary bowling in the middle. The likes of Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, and Shimron Hetmyer in the two matches gone have ensured that the Royals score an above-par total and the bowlers have done remarkably well to not even allow the opponents to get near their total, despite defending in tough conditions.

As it currently stands on the ladder, Rajasthan Royals are placed at the top with a superb net run rate of 2.1. Both of their wins have come with considerably big margins and that speaks volumes about how dominant they have been.

While the Royals have won both of their matches, there are a few problems that they would like to fix as soon as possible. They have a terrific batting unit but that looks top-heavy. We have seen them lose the plot and lose wickets in chunks and they will need to be wary of that. Also, having three bowlers who have not-so-good credentials with the bat does not help their cause either.

On the bowling front, however, not many sides have a bowling attack as good as Rajasthan Royals and that is arguably the only reason that they have managed to defend twice on two occasions. The bowling attack comprising of Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravi Ashwin are capable of doing well against any side in any conditions. They do have a problem of not having a decent sixth bowler and that could prove costly in case things do not go according to plan. They would need their experienced players to come good and if that happens, it won't be surprising to see the Royals going on to win this match as well.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore started off on a disappointing note and just when they were staring at their old problems of bowlers not doing enough, we saw a sensational bowling performance from them against the Knight Riders. While they experienced some hiccups with the bat in the very same match, the Royal Challengers just manage to do enough to get amid of the favorable results.

With that win, they found their path to winning ways and will be looking to continue on their journey. On the points table at the moment, they are placed at the fourth spot from the bottom with a win to their name from a couple of matches. They have a net run rate of -0.048, which they would want to improve going forward in the competition as it could prove to be the difference if things get tight.

Glenn Maxwell has joined the RCB squad but owing to the restrictions imposed by Cricket Australia, he will not feature in today's fixture. Other than that, all looks good on paper for the Challengers and they are likely to walk in with the same side.

As it currently stands on the points table, Royal Challengers Bangalore are placed at the seventh spot with one win from two matches. Owing to their negative net run rate, a win here might not be enough to propel them into the top-four just yet, but it will certainly go a long way in putting the Royal Challengers back to the trajectory they want to be.

On paper, Royal Challengers Bangalore have a terrific side with an excellent amalgamation of youth and experience. The presence of Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and Dinesh Karthick add a sense of calm to the Challengers' lineup. Having said that, their batting does look a tad to over-reliant on the top-three, but that is anyway a case with most of the sides. With all-rounders in Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel available, RCB bat deep, which can be a big factor in crunch situations. Thanks to that, they have a versatile bowling attack as well. If they are able to play to their potential in this upcoming match, which they have so far not, getting past them is going to be incredibly difficult.

Faf du Plessis, Anuj Rawat, V Kohli, Sherfane Rutherford, Dinesh Karthik, Shahbaz Ahmed, David Willey, Wanidu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep.

RR vs RCB Toss Prediction

Defending here in this edition of IPL has not been easy. There have only been a few teams that have managed to defend with the Royals being one of those. Having said that, even they could find defending difficult at this venue should they be batting first. The dew will be a major challenge for the team bowling second to deal with and both captains will be wary of that. Keeping that into consideration, the captain winning the toss is expected to field first.

Pitch and Conditions

This match is being played at the Wankhede Stadium and dew has played a significant part in all the matches that have happened here. Wankhede has more often than not offered a high-scoring surface and we do not expect anything different this time as well. The boundaries aren't as big and the ball just flies off the bat. With the dew likey to be a major factor and considering the recent first innings total here, 190 would be just about par here. The team batting first would not want to settle for anything less than 200, though.

RR vs RCB Betting Tips

Even though both sides are coming off similar results in this match, they have been contrasting in the way they have looked on the field. While the Royals from Rajasthan have been utterly dominant, the Royal Challengers have just managed to sneak into the reckoning. This match could prove to be a vital moment in the journey of both these sides and we expect a cracker of a contest. While the match could go either way, Rajasthan Royals look a slightly better-balanced side, especially given the way up until now. Considering that and the other factors stated above, we will be placing our money on a pink win and so should you. Bet on Rajasthan Royals to rack their third win on the trot.

Yuzvendra Chahal has been one of the best spinners around in the Indian Premier League recently and the numbers are evidence enough of that. He is known to purchase wickets and might well see him do that again against his old teammates. A bet on Yuzi Chahal to pick up at least one wicket seems to be a pretty lucrative proposition.

Faf du Plessis - Total Sixes - Over 1.5

Ever since the last edition of the IPL, only KL Rahul has hit more sixes than Faf du Plessis. When in form, which he is, Faf du Plessis can hit sixes at will. We saw how dangerous he can be once set in RCB's match against Punjab and might well see his exploits again. Bet on Faf du Plessis to hit at least two sixes in the upcoming match.
