The IPL just can't stop getting better. The Universe Boss announced his return with a match-winning fifty for KXIP in a must-win match. That win for KXIP has once again opened up the points table and by the looks of it, things are going to get extremely tight towards the back-end of the competition.
Royal Challengers Bangalore, who missed their chance to grab the second spot on the ladder, will now be desperate to get back to the winning ways and bring about some consistency to their campaign when they take on Rajasthan Royals in the 33rd encounter of the IPL 2020. Rajasthan Royals, as well, will be desperate for a win here and a cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards. The match is set to be played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, on 17th October at 3:30 PM local time.
With a difference of just one win between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab, we might see a new candidate for the bottom-spot soon unless the Royals manage to get their act together. Like KXIP, RR have been one of the most unpredictable teams in the tournament so far, often winning from positions of no return, and relinquishing control despite being in the driving seat.
The Royals are currently placed second from the bottom with a net run-rate of -0.844, which is worst among all teams. They are not in the greatest position at the moment and will need to bounce back quickly to have any chance whatsoever to qualify for the playoffs.
The Royals' lack of depth in the batting lineup continued to hurt them in the previous match and brought about the debate regarding the decision to open with Ben Stokes in the picture yet again. With no experience available in the slog overs, Rajasthan Royals have stumbled too often in the crunch situations and while Tewatia did a brilliant job to bail them out of a few of those situations, RR would need someone to take the onus to finish the games. Ben Stokes could be that man for the Royals, but opening the innings doesn't allow him that opportunity.
With the ball, however, the Royals have looked a lot more improved team in the last few matches. They have employed the short-ball effectively against all teams and we could see that again in the upcoming match as well, especially with the ground having long side boundaries. Jofra Archer, undoubtedly, has been the Royals' best bowler, and the youngsters have played their parts beautifully. The addition of Ben Stokes adds to the variety of their bowling attack without taking anything away from the batting.
While the Royals one of the best top-order in the competition, at least on paper, that hasn't reflected in the performances of the team. More often than not, the Royals have found themselves relying on their lower middle-order and that has arguably been the major reason for their regular defeats in the tournament. Having said that, Jos Buttler looked in fantastic touch in the last match and might be the player to watch out for in the upcoming contest.
After a terrific start to the tournament, the Royals certainly seem to have lost their way. However, the return of Ben Stokes has certainly boosted their strength and we are likely to see a much-improved and balanced performance from the Royals in the upcoming matches. Their bowling has already been doing well and if their top-order fires, the Royals could be a dangerous team to deal with in the back-end of the tournament.
BA Stokes, Jos Buttler, Steven Smith, Sanju Samson, RV Uthappa, Riyan Parag, R Tewatia, Jofra Archer, S Gopal, Jaydev Unadkat, Kartik Tyagi.
While the Royal Challengers are still well and truly in control of their campaign, a couple of bad games could take them to a bothering position. As it currently stands, RCB are at the third spot on the ladder with 10 points in 8 matches. Another couple of losses could make things tricky for them and they'd need to be very best in the next couple of matches.
After a remarkable win over Kolkata Knight Riders, the Challengers shot themselves in the foot against KXIP by not sending AB de Villiers to bat at his regular position. As a result, RCB lost all the momentum that they had and ended up with just 171 runs on the board despite getting a big last over. Their performance with the bat also highlighted their dependence on AB de Villiers to accelerate the innings on a slow-low surface. It was AB de Villiers who made all the difference against KKR and with that absent against Punjab, RCB lacked that final flourish in the back-end of their innings.
While Virat Kohli has generally been good with his tactics in the tournament so far, it was surprising to see him hold Yuzvendra Chahal back when the only way to win the match was to get wickets. The other bowlers not only failed to pick up wickets but also expended runs at a heavy rate. It's twice now that we have seen Virat Kohli shy away to take the defensive route and that is something Rajasthan Royals will be looking to exploit in the next game.
Their bowling had done well in their last two matches, but the lack of consistency will certainly be an issue. The likes of Chris Morris and Navdeep Saini were brilliant against KXIP as well, but the experience or lack thereof was clearly apparent when their bowlers failed to pick up wickets. Mohammad Siraj, in particular, was smashed for plenty in his spell and although he has done well in the series so far, it could be difficult for him to bounce back from the hammering that he got.
On paper, Royal Challengers Bangalore are an incredibly balanced side. Having said that, the form of Aaron Finch will be concerning and we might see him getting replaced by Josh Phillipe or Moeen Ali if things do not get better. While Padikkal has been pretty good, the onus to score quickly and provide impetus to the innings has more often than not been on AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli. Both those batsmen have had their troubles facing quality leg-spinners and RCB could be in a bit of trouble if none of the two batsmen in question fires in the upcoming match. Having said that, it was the Royals' bowling attack that Kohli got back into the form and that should brim him with confidence.
All in all, the Challengers have a lot of moving parts but the lack of consistency has been a problem for them. They have no shortage of talent and brilliance available and if they manage to click in the upcoming match, things will not be easy for the Royals in the upcoming encounter.
Aaron Finch, Devdutt Padikal, V Kohli, AB de Villiers, GR Singh Mann, Washington Sundar, Chris Morris, Shahbaz Ahmed, Isuru Udana, NA Saini, YS Chahal.
Contrary to what we say in the earlier part of the tournament, the teams now are increasingly preferring to bat first. The upcoming match is a day game and with heat likely to test the fitness, no team would want to bat first. With no dew to assist the team batting second, we think the captain winning the toss is expected to bat first.

Dubai started as one of the happiest batting ground in the tournament, but with heat impacting the surface, we are unlikely to get towering totals in the upcoming match. Also, this is a day game and the dew will not have any impact whatsoever here. With short sides boundaries, we expect spinners to thrive here. Express fast bowlers, as well, have been pretty effective here primarily due to the effective usage of the short ball. The team batting first would want to score a total of at least 165 runs here.

It's an important game for both sides. Another loss here for the Royals will push them to the bottom of the table and they'll be desperate to avoid that situation. RCB, on the other hand, will want to get some consistency flowing into their campaign and get into a comfortable position as far as progressing to the next round is concerned. Both sides are coming off losses in their respective last fixtures and would want to get back to the winning ways. With Ben Stokes back in the side, the Royals appear to be a better-balanced time than they did before. Also, their bowling looks better varied and balanced as compared to the Challengers, and therefore, the Royals are our pick to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter.
While Jos Buttler has looked in pristine touch, he hasn't been able to get too many big knocks under his belt. He has looked pretty settled in the powerplay and his modes of dismissals have rather been unlucky. Considering that Royal Challengers Bangalore do not have the best of the new-ball bowling attack, we expect Jos Buttler to easily cross a personal score of 24.5.
Betway is running a special boosted odd on Virat Kohli to score 20+ runs. At odds of 2.50, we think this is a great win. Visit Betway on the following link to claim the boost.
Ben Stokes hasn't spent much time here on these surfaces but still managed to play a nifty innings against Delhi Capitals. He bats at the top of the order and will have ample opportunity to pace innings. He is an excellent player of pace bowling and he is likely to blast his way past the 21-run mark.
Barring the first few matches, Virat Kohli has been the best RCB batsmen, both on paper and performance. He bats at number three and is, therefore, likely to have enough overs to play a big knock. While he is likely to have a tough competition with AB de Villiers, the fact that he bats higher up the order might just work out in his favor. For that reason, it would not be a bad idea to bet on Virat Kohli to be the best RCB batsman on Saturday.
