About the Match
Having won the recent match against the Vikings, Rangpur Riders are placed 4th with 8 points and will take on 5th place holders Sylhet Sixers on 28th November at Chittagong. The Sixers suffered defeat against the Vikings by 40 runs recently and will be eager to improve their ranking with a win here; Rangpur Riders on the other hand, have been doing well this season and will leave no stone unturned to make sure they qualify for the knock-outs. It needs to be seen which team can overcome the challenges and emerge victorious on Tuesday.
Chasing 177 runs against Chittagong Vikings, Mohammad Mithun and Mashrafe Mortaza posted 40+ runs each to steady the innings after losing Brendon McCullum early on. Chris Gayle contributed with 33 runs while all-rounder Thisara Perera scored 28 runs to help steer the team to victory by 3 wickets. Earlier, the fast-bowlers did a good job to take regular wickets, and Lasith Malinga, Mortaza, Rubel Hossain, Perera and spinner Nahidul Islam took a wicket each to restrict Vikings at 176.
Against Titans, Rubel Hossain provided 3 breakthroughs while Malinga pitched in with 2-27. Others like Mortaza, Perera and spinner Sohag Gazi also claimed a wicket each to stifle the opponents at 158. However, the batting line-up crumbled under pressure and despite half-centuries by middle-order batsmen Ravi Bopara and Nahidul Islam, they lost the match by 9 runs in the end. Gayle, McCullum, Mithun and others failed to impress with the bat.
The Riders have had a mixed run so far, and from now on they will be cautious to continue with their winning momentum to make it to the semi-finals. They have match-winners like Gayle, McCullum, Malinga, Rubel Hossain, and other all-rounders like Bopara and Mortaza, who give their side the edge.
The bowlers put up a dismal show against the Vikings in the recent outing, giving away too many easy runs and allowing the opponents to reach 211 runs batting first. Pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi took 2-35 while Tim Bresnan and Abul Hasan provided regular breakthroughs; however, others like Mudassar and Taijul Islam couldn’t stop the run-flow. The batsmen fought hard to build a good foundation during the chase but despite a powerful 71 by Andre Fletcher and Babar Azam’s 41, they could only get to 171 in reply.
When they met Rangpur Riders previously, the top-order failed to do well with the bat while chasing 170; captain Nasir Hossain posted a well-made 50 while Sabbir Rahman contributed with 70 off 49 but the others didn’t support. They lost the contest by a meagre 7 runs, and will be eager to redeem themselves here with a win.
The Sixers too have gained a few wins and lost some matches; they are a strong unit with many resources in hand, who could help them overcome the Riders here.
Rangpur Riders come here at the back of a win and having defeated Sixers earlier, will be motivated to repeat the winning performance again. The contest could be well fought by both sides but we feel that the hard-hitting Riders are better placed to win on Tuesday
