RSA vs BAN Match Prediction - Jun 02, 2019

South Africa received a thrashing at England’s hands in the opening match of the ICC World Cup 2019 and will now face Bangladesh in their next match. The South Africans are going to be playing three matches in the opening week of the cricket world cup. They have already lost one against England and have another tough encounter against India as well.

This makes their game against Bangladesh very crucial.

Bangladesh is no longer a pushover in the ODI format. They have come to CWC 2019 with a young but experienced squad that can upset any of the teams it plays against. Bangladesh would have watched South Africa’s opening encounter closely and will hope to exploit some of the weaknesses that they observed.

A few years South Africa vs Bangladesh would be a foregone conclusion but that is not the case now.

South Africa vs Bangladesh ICC World Cup 2019 is going to be played at the Kennington Oval, London on 2nd June 2019.

RSA vs BAN Team Previews

South Africa

An injury to Dale Steyn and some strange selection choices did not help the South Africans in their opening match but we thought they still had a good chance to win at the halfway stage. The injury to Amla and the loss of two early wickets did not derail their chase. The South Africans definitely had a chance when Quinton de Kock and van der Dussen were batting but poor shot selection cost them heavily.

Amla came out to bat in the previous match but it is unclear if he is going to be fit for this upcoming match. If he does not play then South Africa is going to struggle because Amla was looking in excellent form during the warm-ups.

The surface at the Oval was a little slow but still good for batting.

South Africa’s batting has struggled in recent times and it will be interesting to see if they make changes after just one loss. JP Duminy and Aiden Markram would be the two players that are in most danger of missing out.

Dwayne Pretorius also had a match to forget. Why he would be chosen over Chris Morris is beyond our understanding. Morris bowls faster, is a genuine wicket-taker, and is a superb striker of the ball later down the order.

Chris Morris must surely play this match.

Faf du Plessis has been in excellent touch with the bat and we expect him to score some runs against Bangladesh. One of the things that South Africa will have to be wary of is to play spin effectively.

The Oval surface was providing some assistance to the spinners and Bangladesh is going to have a couple of good ones in their side to call upon. South Africa’s bowling was not too bad against a very strong England lineup.

We think they might see the success that short-pitched bowling brought the West Indies against Pakistan and follow the same game plan.

South Africa Playing 11

Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, Faf du Plessis, RVD Dussen, Jean-Paul Duminy, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir.

Bangladesh

No one really expects Bangladesh to be able to make it to the semi-final stage of the ICC World Cup 2019 but almost everyone agrees they have the firepower to pull off a few upsets. Bangladesh defeated the West Indies three times in a single series during their most recent ODI tournament just a few weeks back.

Beating South Africa is going to be a tough task but Bangladesh has some very good players to depend on.

The big challenge for Bangladesh is going to be getting its bowling sorted out. Mustafizur Rahman is bowling at a nice pace and seems to be fully fit. His presence in the attack alongside Mashrafe Mortaza, Shakib Al-Hasan, Mehidy Hasan, and one of Abu Jayed or Rubel Hossain makes Bangladesh a decent bowling attack.

They will be very happy to see the Oval wicket a bit slower than expected as it will bring their spinners in the game. If the Bangladeshi spinners can tie down the South Africans and keep them from running away with the match then the batting has some serious firepower as well.

Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Sabbir Rahman are all very good players. Most importantly, they also have enough experience of playing in crunch match situations to not get overawed by the occasion.

The Bangladeshi batsmen need to get past the opening burst from Rabada and they can prosper against the other bowlers. Even Imran Tahir is not going to worry them too much. If the Bangladeshi batsmen believe in themselves and bat sensibly they are going to give South Africa a hard time and could well cause an upset.

The players to watch out for in this match from our perspective are going to be Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, and Mehidy Hasan.

Bangladesh Playing 11

Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mashrafe Mortaza, Mehidy Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman.

RSA vs BAN Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss is likely to want to bat first. Both teams are a little unsure about their batting and would prefer batting without the scoreboard pressure on them.

Pitch and Conditions

South Africa vs Bangladesh ICC World Cup 2019 ODI match is going to be played at the Kennington Oval, London. The weather in London on match day is expected to be a bit cloudy but the chance of rain falling is very low.

The pitch at the Oval was bouncy but did not have the pace that it usually does. The groundsman would have had a couple of days in between matches to fix that and we could see an even better batting surface in this match.

A score of 330 seems to be the minimum that teams need to aim for batting first.

RSA vs BAN Dream11 Prediction

South Africa's second World Cup 2019 match has become quite important after its loss against England. Bangladesh is a tricky opponent to come up against at this stage as well. Our Dream11 team for South Africa vs Bangladesh ICC World Cup 2019 match is based assuming that Hashim Amla is fit and available for selection. As always, remember to follow us on twitter @cricketbettings where we update the Dream11 team after the toss for every World Cup match.

Wicketkeeper: There are two excellent options available in Quinton de Kock and Mushfiqur Rahim. We have selected both in our Dream11 side for this match. de Kock is in good form and scored a fifty against England while Mushfiqur Rahim is one of the main batsmen for Bangladesh.

Batsmen: We have picked Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Faf du Plessis, and Rassie van der Dussen for this match. Tamim Iqbal has matured into an excellent ODI batsman and is one of the few Bangladeshi player's that is comfortable against the short ball. Soumya Sarkar has been in great touch leading up to this game and is the batsmen we are most excited to see. Faf du Plessis missed out in the previous game but is averaging close to 60 in ODI cricket over the last year. His position at three or four is also high enough to give him plenty of chances to score a century. Rassie van der Dussen is a good player of spin and also in good form after scoring a fifty in the previous match.

We were tempted to pick David Miller but his selection in the team is far from certain at this stage.

All-rounders: Shakib Al Hasan and Andile Phehlukwayo are sure to be picked for this match. They are both high-quality players that are likely to be in the game with both the ball and bat. If Chris Morris is picked then we would definitely want to include him as well at the expense of one of the other players.

Bowlers: Dale Steyn is injured and is not expected to be fit till the third match that South Africa plays so we have not considered him. Mustafizur Rahman, Kagiso Rabada, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz are the three bowlers we have picked in this category. Kagiso Rabada is going to be the enforcer in this match and we expect a lot of hostile short-pitched bowling from him in this match. Mustafizur Rahman is Bangladesh's spearhead while Mehidy Hasan is an underrated off-spinner that could trouble the many left-handers in the South African team.

Captain and Vice-Captain: We have picked Faf du Plessis as captain and Soumya Sarkar as vice-captain for this match.

RSA vs BAN Betting Tips

Bangladesh has only beaten South Africa thrice in their entire ODI history. Two of those wins came in Bangladesh in conditions quite different from what they can expect at the Kennington Oval. South Africa may not have its strongest team but it is still the third-ranked side in the ODI format and has the advantage of playing a match at this venue already.

The difference between the two sides is not as great as it once was but we would still not recommend going for the upset in this match.

Bet on South Africa to win.
