England absolutely demolished South Africa in the T20 series and won it 3-0. What would have been disconcerting for the South Africans was that the victories just seemed to be getting more comprehensive in every subsequent match.
The home team also saw some improvements in its own batting performances but the bowling remains a big worry.
Now, the action shifts to the ODI series, where the difference between the teams has been stark in recent years. Can South Arica find a way to fight back against the current ODI champions of the World? Will England continue its unbeaten streak on this short tour of South Africa?
South Africa vs England 1st ODI 2020 is going to be played at Newlands, Capetown on the 4th of December 2020.
South Africa has the same squad of players for its T20 and ODI formats at the moment. While that will give some continuity to the team, it is also a concern since this same squad of players has failed to stop England in a single match so far.
There will be some changes in the personnel, though.
We think Janneman Malan is likely to get a chance at the top of the order, JJ Smuts may get a look-in, and Andile Phehlukwayo looks set to reprise his role as the leading all-rounder of the side.
The reshuffle in the batting order, if it happens, is not going to be too concerning to South Africa. Its leading batsmen remain the same. Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, and now Rassie van der Dussen are the players that will be expected to step up and score runs consistently.
There is going to be pressure on everyone to get enough runs, though, as they know what England is capable of.
The real challenge for South Africa is going to be to find an answer to its bowling woes.
On paper, the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi, Beuran Hendricks, and some very capable all-rounders should offer more than enough opportunities to pick an excellent bowling attack.
For whatever reason, though, the combinations that South Africa has tried did not work. Every one of these bowlers is talented but will need to elevate his game against the World Champions.

The ODI format can take a bit of a backseat now that two T20 World Cup’s are on the horizon but we don’t think England will want to give an inch in this series either.
It has built an excellent team that is capable of winning in all conditions and it will continue to come hard at the South Africans no matter what the situation.
We know how strong the batting has been for England in the series, although, they are going to be without their best batsman from the T20 series now. Dawid Malan, the world’s top-ranked T20 batsman does not find a place in the ODI squad, as strange as that may seem.
His absence is going to add pressure on every other member of the squad. Players like Jason Roy, Liam Livingstone, Sam Billings, and even Moeen Ali know that they are keeping out a player who is not going to be denied for long.
Jason Roy is especially on the edge as his long streak of underperforming continues. We think England will start with him, though.
Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, Liam Livingstone, Sam Billings, and Moeen Ali should form the batting lineup with Adil Rashid, Chris Woakes, Tom Curran, and one out of Wood/Topley/Stone to round things out as the bowling order.
It is incredible to think that Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Jofra Archer are not going to be a part of the squad for this series. England’s depth is just beyond anything we have ever seen from them in the past and that is why they are going to be hard to beat.

The team that wins the toss is likely to want to field first. Defending a total has been tough at Cape Town and both the matches played there were won by the team that chased. That may influence the decision in the first ODI match as well.

The conditions in Newlands are expected to be good for batting. The surface was a bit slow for the first T20 but played much better in the third T20. We are hoping for more of the latter so that two strong batting sides can unleash their talents.
The spinners will have a major role to play as the fast-bowlers will have very little to work with.
Expect a score of around 325 to be par on this surface.
Dream11 team and Dream11 tips for South Africa vs England 1st ODI 2020
We are going to stick with the visitors. South Africa has shown improvement in its batting lineup but its bowling is a big worry. Also, England just seems to have too many match-winners at its disposal right now to be ignored.
More batting depth, better bowling form, more variety, and a proven ability to win close matches all give the edge to England in this contest.
Bet on England to win.
Adil Rashid is used in a very attacking manner by Eoin Morgan. He always goes for wickets and is not afraid of getting hit for a few boundaries. In a lot of respects, he is England’s best ODI bowler. His record against South Africa is decent and we think the surface could offer him some assistance as well.
This is perhaps our favorite bet of the match because it gives you so many chances to win. Just think that you can win a 60% return on your stake if even one of the many world-class batsmen on either side scores a century on one of the flattest pitches in the world!
