Not often do we see the Proteas struggling at home, but this ongoing series against Pakistan hasn't been a familiar story for them. They were defeated 2-1 in the One Day Internationals and will do well if they manage to draw level in the T20I series. Their cricketing summer is approaching its end and they will not want to finish it with consecutive series losses to their name.
The fourth match of the series between South Africa and Pakistan is to be played on Friday, 16th April 2021 at SuperSport Park, Centurion. Pakistan would want to bag another series win whereas the Proteas would want to deny them just that. With series at stake, both sides will come out all guns blazing and a cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards.
South Africa are still in the rebuilding phase and this series carried massive importance with respect to their final combination that will be there at the World Cup. They were without their seven first-choice players and the newly tested player will now have the final opportunity to announce their candidature for the World Cup squad that will be flying to India later this year.
South Africa's start to the season was rather disappointing as they lost to England, but they followed that loss with a terrific spell of wins over Sri Lanka. In this series, however, they have failed to challenge Pakistan as well as they'd have liked to, but the fans and the management would take that considering that the Proteas are far from their full-strength side.
In this series gone by, South Africa's short-format specialists have done well with the bat. However, with the ball and in the field, South Africa have looked like a mere shadow of themselves. They are clearly missing Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada, which was also evident in the last match wherein they conceded more than 200 runs with two overs to spare.
All in all, South Africa are doing pretty well with the bat but would need their bowlers to step up on these flat surfaces. If their bowlers manage to do something substantial and fielders do not drop anything, the Proteas will be in business.
Janneman Malan, Aiden Markram, George Linde, RVD Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen, Wiaan Mulder, Andile Phehlukwayo, SSB Magala, Bjorn Fortuin, Lizaad Williams, Tabraiz Shamsi.
Pakistan have always been known for their unpredictability and it is not different this time as well. On paper, they looked a little iffy, to begin with, but the way they have performed in this series is certainly commendable. The likes of Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan have stepped up their game in this series and that probably has been a game-changing factor for them.
Just like the Proteas, this series was important for Pakistan largely to get their final squad sorted for the World T20. Given the way they have done in the series so far, they look pretty settled and ready to go. With a new range of attacking shots, Babar Azam have been a threat to deal with and is coming off a splendid century. Alongside him is Mohammad Rizwan, who has been in the most consistent man for Pakistan in the last few matches.
All in all, Pakistan have been the better side in the tournament and would want to build on their form. If they can continue to play as they have done, they should cruise to another win on this tour.
Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Haider Ali, Asif Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf.
While South Africa have always had the home advantage in this series, they haven't really utilized that advantage. With seven of their first-choice players absent, the Proteas lack experience and that happened to be a telling factor in the previous match as well. Pakistan, on the other hand, have looked clinical more often than not. For that reason, they are our pick to emerge as winners in the upcoming contest.
