RSA vs PAK Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jan 25, 2019

South Africa has struck back at Pakistan with a comprehensive win in the second ODI. The series now stands at 1-1 with three ODI’s remaining. South Africa went back to the tried and tested method of bouncing out the Pakistani batsmen to which the visitors did not have an answer. A pretty decent bowling effort from Pakistan could have helped them pull off a miracle but that did not happen. There was also an unsavory incident about some comments that Sarafarz Ahmed made regarding Andile Phehlukwayo.

The South Africans are going to be charged up and are only going to come harder at the South Africans. They should also be welcoming back Dale Steyn and Quinton de Kock back into the squad. Can Pakistan find the spark that saw them win the first ODI or can that success be put down to conditions helpful to spin only? We’ll find out.

RSA vs PAK Team Previews

South Africa

After being a little subdued in the opening match against Pakistan, their bowlers came out aggressively and with an agenda to bounce out the Pakistanis. Kagiso Rabada and Duanne Olivier bounced out the batsmen with pace while Phehlukwayo relied on changeups to keep the batsmen guessing.

The result was a decimation of the Pakistani top-order. The South Africans would have been disappointed to have let Sarfaraz Ahmed and Hasan Ali rescue the batting and get their side to a fighting total.

At 112 for 8, South Africa had Pakistan on the mat and to allow them to get 203 was completely unexpected.

Quinton de Kock and Dale Steyn were rested for the first two ODI’s and now will be available for selection. We expect both those players to slot in straight into the side. After all, Reeza Hendricks has not scored many runs so far and so a gap at the opening position exists.

One player that has taken the opportunities given to him with both hands is Rassie van der Dussen. He followed up his score of 93 with an 80 not out and helped his side navigate a tricky chase. In fact, the lack of runs for Hendricks, Amla, du Plessis, and Klaasen gave Pakistan more than a hint at victory.

Van der Dussen played a crucial hand along with David Miller and later Andile Phehlukwayo to ensure South Africa maintained its winning run. With four wickets in the bowling stint and 69 not out to his name, Phehlukwayo showed just why he is rated so highly by South Africa.

Dane Paterson had a decent match but he seems like the obvious choice to make way for Dale Steyn.

South Africa was dominant in the last match and is only going to be boosted by the addition of two of the best ODI players on the planet.

South Africa Playing 11

Pakistan

It is strange to see an international side make the same mistake again and again but that is exactly what Pakistan did. They were up against some relatively hostile short-pitched bowling but nothing out of the ordinary. The pitch was flat and there was nothing that could excuse the complete capitulation of the batsmen.

Had it not been for a fifty from Hasan Ali, Pakistan would have barely managed to reach 150.

The fact that Pakistan’s batting has been weak for some time is no secret. They continue to stick with Fakhar Zaman at the top of the order even though his success rate is abysmal. Similarly, playing Shadab Khan at number 6 is just ridiculous. He is not an all-rounder and would barely qualify as a talented tail-ender.

With Shadab Khan at 6, Hussain Talat at 7, and Faheem Ashraf at 8, Pakistan has a tail that starts too long. The potential that these players may one day become fine batsmen is yet to come true and it would make much more sense to play an extra genuine batsman.

Pakistan must keep hoping for runs from Babar Azam. He is the only player that looks classy enough to survive in any condition. He and Imam are the most talented batters in this side with the rest pretty unpredictable.

Pakistan needs to depend on its bowing to be able to do well in South Africa. They have a talented bowling attack that has troubled the South Africans. Shaheen Afridi too three early wickets while Shadab Khan chipped in with two more. Had Pakistan fielded a little better, the end result could have been pretty different as well.

A bowling attack that has Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, and Shadab Khan is always going to be dangerous. Why Faheem Ashraf keeps getting picked is just beyond us but he is also an integral part of this bowling attack!

Pakistan Playing 11

Imam-ul-Haq, F Zaman, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed, SI Wasim, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi.
