South Africa always seems to struggle against Sri Lanka and for a while, it must have been nervous as Sri Lanka made its highest ever score in the country in the first inning. An excellent batting performance from South Africa, as well as a spate of injuries for Sri Lanka, eventually ensured that South Africa would win the first match with ease.
It is now going to be the favorite heading into the next match at the Wanderers.
Sri Lanka will need to find some resilience from its players and search the squad for all of its depth to try and put together a competitive eleven. Things are not looking good for the islanders but we know better than to count them out off-hand.
South Africa vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Match 2021 is going to be played at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg starting on the 3rd of January 2021.
It is easy to look at the result of the first test and assume that South Africa dominated throughout. That was not the case at all and we think bettors must take into account the poor bowling display that we saw in the first inning.
Maybe the absence of Kagiso Rabada was a factor and now that he is available, he should walk into the team one of the first names on the sheet. He could replace Anrich Nortje, who had a middling sort of test match. He bowled well in patches but we expected a lot more of him.
That would mean that Lungi Ngidi, Lutho Sipamla, Wiaan Mulder, and Keshav Maharaj are the other bowlers alongside Rabada.
The addition of Rabada adds immediate quality and raises the attacking capabilities of the South African bowling unit.
Almost every single batsmen got runs against Sri Lanka in the previous match. They were confronted with a handicapped bowling attack but still had to make the most of it. Faf du Plessis, Aiden Markram, Dean Elgar, and Temba Bavuma all stand out for their excellent batting.
In terms of batting performance, the South Africans will be quietly confident of repeating a similar dose to the Sri Lankans in this match as well.
The Wanderers have been known to provide some pitches very helpful for the bowlers and if that is the case this time, then South Africans could run all over the Sri Lankans with ease.
Aiden Markram, Dean Elgar, RVD Dussen, Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, Temba Bavuma, Wiaan Mulder, K Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Lutho Sipamla, Lungi Ngidi.
Sri Lanka is going to have to make some serious changes ahead of the second test match. They have had a number of injury concerns and will be wary of taking anyone even half-fit into the next test match.
The first test started very well for the Sri Lankans. They made their highest total ever in South Africa but it was the bowling that fell apart. We did not find that surprising. Sri Lanka has a very decent batting line-up with the likes of Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis, Lahiru Thirimanne, and Niroshan Dickwella.
The skipper Dimuth Karunaratne is also an excellent opening batsman.
The loss of Dhananjay de Silva is going to be a big one considering he was in fine batting form and on 79 when he was injured.
Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara are not going to play any further role in this series and so Dushmanth Chameera and Suranga Lakmal should be the obvious replacements. Vishwa Fernando bowled a lot of overs and it will be interesting to see how he holds up as well.
The challenge ahead of Sri Lanka is the same. They can be expected to put up a fight but to take 20 South African wickets is going to be tough. We also think it is not going to be easy to get runs in this test match either looking at the expected conditions and the stronger South African bowling attack.
Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Perera, HDRL Thirimanne, Kusal Mendis, Minod Bhanuka, Niroshan Dickwella, Dasun Shanaka, Wanidu Hasaranga, MVT Fernando, PVD Chameera, Asitha Fernando.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. There is going to be some help for the bowlers early on but the conditions are only going to get tougher to bat on as the days progress.

There is no rain predicted in Johannesburg during the second test and so we should be able to get a result with ease. There is going to be a lot more help for the bowlers in this surface than the previous match. Bounce, pace, and movement should all be visible to make life difficult for the batsmen.
We think this match could be over well within four days.
We are going to stick with South Africa to win this match and to make it 2-0. Sri Lanka is a plucky side but it is a little out of its depth in this series. The South Africans have a stronger batting lineup and their bowling is going to be reinforced as well.
Bet on South Africa to win.
Our Favorite Bets
Any Player to Score A Century in the First Inning - Yes ($1.66) (Betway)
This is our absolute favorite bet for this match. Any one player from any one team needs to get three figures for you to net a nearly 70% return on your stake. That is very attractive. The pitch is going to be helpful to the bowlers but you do expect at least someone to get through and make runs.
Bet big here and take the most advantage.
Total Fours in the match - Over 120.5 ($1.72) (Betway)
Looking at the batting strength on both sides, the fast outfield at the Wanderers, and the relatively weak Sri Lankan bowling unit, this is another excellent opportunity to get paid handsomely.
We think the total boundaries on offer could well be above 121.
