RSA vs WI Match Prediction - Mar 08, 2023

South Africa will be looking to make a clean sweep as they host Indies for the final match of the 2-match test series. The match begins on Wednesday and will be played at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

South Africa is currently in the 4th spot in the World Test Championship standings but they have no chance of making it to the second place even if they win this match. So, in that sense, the match is a dead rubber. However, a 2-0 win in a home series will be a welcome ending for the Proteas.

On the other hand, West Indies haven’t had the best of times in South Africa and will be playing for pride here.

RSA vs WI Team Previews

South Africa

South Africa went into the first match on the back of 3 losses and a draw and many expected them to struggle despite playing under home conditions. However, inspiring performances by the likes of Aiden Markram and Anrich Nortje helped them secure a famous win in a closely-fought contest.

Just like in the opening game, Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram will be hoping to give the team a good start here. Markram in particular is in sublime form as he put up scores of 115 and 47 at Centurion. Temba Bavuma, who was making his debut as a Test Captain will be pretty disappointed as he copped a pair.

Tony de Zorzi, Heinrich Klaasen, and Keegan Petersen all managed to get good starts in the first innings but failed to convert them into big scores. Kagiso Rabada breathed fire on the flat pitch and ended the match with a total of 8 wickets, including a 6-wicket haul in the second innings, and will be looking to put up a similar performance here.

It was Anrich Nortje who set the tone in the very first inning as he picked up a fifer but he is likely to miss this match due to a groin injury. Senuran Muthusamy was the lone quality spinner in the squad and he will have plenty of work to do in Johannesburg.

West Indies

West Indies came into the previous contest on the back of a huge win against Zimbabwe but failed to carry on with that kind of form at the Centurion.

There were a lot of expectations from Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Kraigg Brathwaite, especially after seeing their form in Zimbabwe. However, both were quite disappointing in both innings, and will be looking to redeem themselves here.

Chanderpaul in particular will need to play well. He has already scored a half-century and a double-hundred within a short span of 5 test matches and will need to take charge of the West Indian batting. Raymon Reifer and Jermaine Blackwood appear to be in decent form and can get quite devastating in the middle order.

West indies have some quality all-rounders in the form of Roston Chase, Jason Holder, and Kyle Myers which gives them plenty of depth in their batting. Alzarri Joseph and Kemar Roach were excellent with the ball in the last match, picking up individual fifers.

They will be hoping to bring the South African batsmen under pressure to force them to make mistakes.

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first here.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Wanderers Stadium is flat and offers plenty of bounce to the quicker bowlers. The surface is good to bat on, especially during the first couple of days but starts deteriorating after that. The average first-inning score here is around 310 and anything above 225 will be difficult to chase here in the 4th innings.

There is a forecast of rain on the first and last day of the Test match which may lead to some interruptions. However, the other days are likely to see clearer weather.

RSA vs WI Betting Tips

The South Africans were clinical in their performance and held their nerve till the end. The batting, anchored by Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram is once again expected to fire the hosts to a big total, while we expect the visitors to continue struggling.

Bet on South Africa to win.

Aiden Markram was in sublime form during the first match of this series, putting up scores of 115 and 47 in the two innings of the test match. He was the top-scorer in both those innings for South Africa. Given the fact that the track in Johannesburg is excellent to bat on during the first two days, we are expecting Markram to once again emerge as the top-scorer for his team.
