RSA vs ZIM Match Prediction - Oct 24, 2022

With the T20 World Cup Qualifiers now complete, the fixtures in the Super 12 stage are now confirmed. On Monday, South Africa will face Zimbabwe in an African Derby.

While South Africa is the firm favorite to win this one, Zimbabwe, with its exploits in the Qualifiers, has shown that it cannot be written off so easily.

RSA vs ZIM Team Previews

South Africa

After winning the T20 series against England and Ireland in July and August respectively, the South African team traveled to India on a high. However, the hosts were clinical in their performance and handed the Proteas their first T20 series defeat on Indian soil. South Africa has had the chance to play just 1 warm-up game in Australia, which they won easily, defeating New Zealand by 9 wickets.

South Africa’s biggest strength this year has been its batting. Quinton de Kock has consistently provided them with good starts at the top of the order, and those starts have been converted into big scores by the middle order, including Rilee Rossouw and David Miller. But it is Reeza Hendricks who is the top scorer for South Africa this year in the shortest format and has scored 323 runs from 7 innings.

The bowling line-up of South Africa has some big names, but they have been inconsistent in their performance this year. Lungi Ngidi is the top wicket-taker with 15 wickets in 9 games, while Rabada has managed to get just 5 from his 9 matches. Tabraiz Shamsi has been good with his wrist spin, but Keshav Maharaj has enjoyed limited success.

South Africa Playing 11

Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Rilee Rossouw, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Wayne Parnell, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi.

Zimbabwe

After back-to-back series defeats against Namibia and Afghanistan, most cricket pundits had written off Zimbabwe. However, the team came back strongly, taking the hard route through the Qualifiers to make it into the Super 12. Zimbabwe won 2 of the 3 matches in the Qualifiers to finish at the top of Group B, thus making its way in Group 2 of the Super 12, along with South Africa, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

Sikandar Raza has been exceptional, with both, the bat and the ball, and has scored 136 runs and picked up 5 wickets in 3 matches. Captain Craig Ervine has provided his team with some solid starts, while Madhvere and Chakabava have performed well in patches. Blessing Muzarabani could be quite effective on the bouncy pitch in Hobart and will be supported by Tendai Chatara and Luke Jongwe.

However, it remains to be seen how the Zimbabwean bowling copes with an in-form South African batting line-up.

RSA vs ZIM Toss Prediction

A look at the past data shows that teams batting first have enjoyed more success compared to those batting second at Hobart. Therefore, the winner of the toss is likely to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

While the pitch was slower earlier, the recent changes have made the contest between the bat and the ball much more even. Spinners are likely to see some good turn. However, with showers forecast throughout the next week, we might see a shortened match or even a wash-out.

RSA vs ZIM Betting Tips

We are backing South Africa to win this match. While Zimbabwe has seen great improvement over the last few months, they lack quality when it comes to facing a top team like South Africa.

The South African batsmen, especially the middle-order, have been in top form this year. David Miller and Rilee Rossouw have scored a half-century and a century each, while Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock have each scored two half-centuries. Reza Hendricks has gone on to score 4 scores of more than 50. We, therefore, expect the South African batsmen to score freely against an average Zimbabwean bowling unit. Talking about Zimbabwe batsmen, Sikandar Raza can be pretty devastating in his day. He has been in great form this season and has scored 5 half-centuries this year. The pitch at Hobart has become more batting friendly in recent years, and we can most certainly expect some explosive batting from both sides.

While Zimbabwe does have a quality opener in the form of captain Craig Ervine, he does take some time to settle in. The Zimbabwe top order will find it difficult to score against South African seamers, particularly Ngidi. On the other hand, barring Temba Bavuma, all top-order batsmen are in good nick and are capable of scoring quickly. We are therefore backing South Africa for this bet.
