RSAW vs BANW Match Prediction - Feb 21, 2023

The hosts South Africa will go all guns blazing as they face Bangladesh Women for their last group-stage match in the ongoing edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on Tuesday. In Group A, Australia Women have already qualified for the semifinals after a clinical performance, while Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have already been eliminated.

Should South Africa win this match, they will move to second place on the points table and qualify. However, if they fail to do so, it will be New Zealand Women who move ahead.

RSAW vs BANW Team Previews

South Africa Women

The fans would have hoped for a better performance from South Africa Women, especially since they were playing with a home advantage. However, a shock loss against Sri Lanka Women in the opening match threw their calculations awry and they now face the humiliating prospect of making an early exit.

The batting has been a big letdown for South Africa this season as except for captain Sune Luus, none of the batters have been consistent for them. After failing to play well in the first two matches, opener Tazmin Brits played a gritty knock of 45 runs in the match against Australia and that should give her some confidence against Bangladesh.

The team will expect the likes of Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp to play a good inning here. The latter however has bowled well, picking up 5 wickets in 3 matches, and is the leading wicket-taker for South Africa in this tournament. She has received good support from Nonkululeko Mlaba who has picked up 4 wickets. However, others including Shabnim Ismail and Nadine de Klerk have been quite expensive.

Chloe Tryon will be looking to score quick runs toward the end of the innings and can also chip in with the ball.

Bangladesh Women

It has been a forgettable tournament for the Bangladesh Women’s team as they have lost all the 3 matches that they have played so far. With 0 points to show, they are at the bottom of the points table and have already been eliminated. However, they will be playing for pride here as they play their final match of the tournament.

There are not many positives that the team can take from this World Cup, except for the performance of Nigar Sultana and Marufa Akter. Nigar has expectedly been Bangladesh's top batter, scoring a total of 93 runs including q half-century.

However, she has received little support from the top and middle order. Murshida Khatun and Shorna Akter got a good start in the last match but failed to convert them into a big score, while Shamima Sultana and Shobhana Mostary have been disappointing, to say the least.

Young Marufa Akter, who made her T20 debut in December last year, has been the spearhead of Bangladesh’s pace attack and has picked up 4 wickets in 3 matches so far. The other bowlers however as struggled to rein in the opposition batters and leaked too many runs.

RSAW vs BANW Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first here.

Pitch and Conditions

The Newlands Stadium has an excellent surface to bat on and we should see plenty of runs getting scored here, especially from the hosts. The pitch does tend to slow down a bit as the match progresses and it will be difficult to chase totals above 140.

The weather is expected to be overcast but there is hardly any chance of rain. The temperatures are likely to remain below the 20-degree mark.

RSAW vs BANW Betting Tips

While South Africa hasn’t been in the best of forms in this tournament, we will back them to win this contest. The Bangladesh Women have been completely outplayed by their opponents and they haven’t been able to put up a good fightback as yet. The bowling has been particularly weak and they are likely to be taken for quite a few runs.

Back the South Africa Women to win this match.
