Ruby Trichy Warriors and Chepauk Super Gillies both got off to a poor start in Tamil Nadu Premier League, losing their respective opening matches. These two teams are set to meet each other, for the first time in this edition of TNPL, and both will be looking to salvage their first win of the tournament. They are set to clash at India Cements Cricket Ground, Tirunelveli on Tuesday, 23rd July. Chepauk Super Gillies had a competition to forget last year, winning just one match in totality, and another loss here should be enough to give them flashbacks of last year. Ruby Trichy Warriors, too, haven't seen the top half of the table since the inception of the tournament and will be itching to get into the playoffs.
It all seemed to be going well for the Trichy Warriors until the individual brilliance of Srikanth Aniruddha snatched two crucial points from them with two consecutive sixes in super over.
The Warriors did all the hard work in their first match of the tournament only to be left heartbroken as they went down without any points in a thrilling game which went down till the super over. Murali Vijay was the sole player who carried them to the brink of victory. He will once again be the key figure for Trichy Warriors' batting to do well on Tuesday.
Bowling first, their bowlers got them off to a decent start by picking Aditya in the very first over of the game, but the lack of penetration cost them towards the death overs allowed Karaikudi Kalaai to get to a tall total. During their chase, they lacked someone to play a second-fiddle to Murali Vijay, who scored 81 off 56 deliveries. Their other batsmen failed to score big despite getting starts, which eventually proved to be the difference between the two sides.

The Super Gillies got off to a rather strange start with a loss in a closely fought, low-scoring encounter at Dindigul. On a surface which didn't have too many demons in it, the Super Gillies failed to chase down a target they'd have chased nine times out of ten.
After putting Dindigul Dragons into bat, their bowlers bowled beautifully in the powerplay overs with ample tightness and accuracy. While Periyaswamy, Rahul, and Siddharth kept things tight as the trio picked up a wicket each, it was R Alexander who unsettled the Dragons' innings and rocked them with three quick wickets. The Dragons ended up scoring a less than par score of 115 which Super Gillies failed to hunt down.
It was a collective failure with the bat from Chepauk Super Gillies as they kept losing wickets after being reduced to 11 for three inside the first two overs. Even though the likes of Aarif, Sasidev, and Murugan Ashwin got the starts, their failure to convert those into big ones cost Super Gillies two crucial points. On paper, they have a pretty good batting lineup, but lack of runs from their top order was responsible for their last defeat, and if they can improve in that department, they'll be a tough side to face.

While these are still early days in the tournament, a win and loss here can be critical towards the end of the competition. Chepauk Super Gillies and Ruby Trichy Warriors both languished at the bottom of the table in the last edition, and both would not like to go two matches down so early in the tournament. While Ruby Trichy Warriors are massive on batting power, Chepauk Super Gillies have a terrific bowling attack which destroyed Dindigul's batting the other day. Chepauk Super Gillies have a bowling attack that is likely to flourish on the slow surface and, therefore, we think they are better placed to win the upcoming encounter.
