An impressive start to the tournament for the Ruby Trichy Warriors has seen them win both their matches so far. They are going to be up against another vastly improved side, the Lyca Kovai Kings. The Kings have lost two of their three matches but they have competed in every game and cannot be taken lightly.
The TNPL is much more tightly contested than it has been in previous years and every match will be crucial. We have a feeling that one or both of these teams could find themselves in the running for a knockout place towards the end of the group games.
The Warriors have scored almost 180 in both their matches so far and have benefitted from contributions from multiple players. One of the things about a tournament like this is that a team can progress quite far is just one player hits form. The Ruby Trichy Warriors are one of the few teams in the competition that can hope to see runs from a couple of their players consistently.
S Kumar with 119 runs to his name, a best of 74, and 9 sixes in total so far has been the standout performer for the Warriors. Baba Inderjith also scored a fifty, while useful contributions from C Ganapathy and Bharath Shankar makes the Warriors lineup quite impressive.
With the impressive Sonu Yadav also a part of the unit, we think that the Roby Trichy Warriors can be confident of scoring a big total or chasing down scores in every match they play.
Ganapathy is currently the leading wicket-taker for the side as well with 5 scalps to his name but here again, contributions from a large number of players stand out. K Vignesh, Sonu Yadav, D Kumaran, Sanjay, and Lakshmi Narayanan have all contributed with wickets to their names.
None of the bowlers is going for more than 10 runs an over either.
Overall, this is a very strong unit heading into the match against the Lyca Kovai Kings.
Bharath Shankar, Baba Indrajith, Suresh Kumar, K Mani Bharathi, R Sonu Yadav, MS Sanjay, S Aravind, Chandrasekar Ganapathy, Dakshinamoorthy Kumaran, M Lakshmi Narayanan, Kannan Vignesh.
The Kings can count themselves a little unlucky to have won just one match out of the three they have played so far. They have batted well in all the three matches but only managed to get over the line in the super over against idream Karaikudi Kaalai.
Winning this game against an in-form Ruby Trichy Warriors side is going to be crucial.
The Kings, like their opponents in this match, have plenty of players in form. Shahrukh Khan has been the standout with 141 runs to his name but Srinaath and Abhinav Mukund have done well also.
The team also has a very valuable player in R Rohith who comes down the order and clears the boundary with ease. He has scored a total of 51 runs in the tournament but hit 5 sixes and two boundaries already.
The six hitting potential of the Lyca Kovai Kings is superior to the Ruby Trichy Warriors, something that can be very important in T20 cricket.
Where the Lyca Kovai Kings have struggled is the bowling. The team was counting on T Natarajan to lead the bowling but he has yet to take a wicket in the tournament. Instead, it is M Rajesh who has taken 6 wickets to provide some level of competence to the bowling attack.
Players like Shahrukh Khan, Antony Dhas, K Vignesh, and Ajith Ram need to do better in the upcoming matches if the team has to win matches. There is no point in scoring runs if the opposition is just going to get them with ease thanks to a poor bowling attack.
Shahrukh Khan, Abhinav Mukund, Akkil Srinaath, Ashwin Venkataraman, Antony Dhas, S Ajith Ram, M Prasanth Rajesh, S Manigandan, Ravi Kumar Rohith, T Natarajan, Krishnamoorthy Vignesh.
The team winning the toss is expected to bat first
A partly cloudy day with high humidity has been forecast for match day in Dindigul. Thankfully, there seems to be very little chance of rain interrupting proceedings. The pitch in Dindigul has been good for batting so far.
Scores of around 180 have been scored consistently and we expect to see the same in this match as well. Bowlers will need to hit the right lengths and change their pace frequently to be effective.
We think the Ruby Trichy Warriors side is more balanced than the Lyca Kovai Kings. The Warriors also have more players contributing in all aspects of the game. They should be able to get over the line and maintain their winning record in the tournament so far.
Back the Ruby Trichy Warriors to win.
