While Kanchi Warriors defeated Super Giants in the last outing by 7 wickets in a convincing way, the Patriots emerged victorious against Veerans in the last game by 6 wickets; the two teams will try to keep their winning momentum going and improve their rankings on the table. It needs to be seen which team can execute the strategy to perfection and keep a cool head above their shoulders in order to start climbing the ladder.
Ruby Kanchi Warriors
Chasing 136 runs against Super Gaints the batting line-up kept a firm foot on the ground in order to get the scoreboard moving and win the match handsomely; opener Bharath Shankar scored 37 off 24 while Akkil Srinaath posted an unbeaten 38 from just 19 balls to steer the team safely to a win. Indrajith and Nilesh Subramanian contributed well and helped in reaching the target.
Earlier spinner Parthiban took 3-28 being the leading wicket taker and restricted the opponents; Prabhu supported with his leg-breaks while medium pacers Jesuraj and Kaushik took 3 wickets between them.
In the match against Veerans, the bowlers leaked away too many runs and they ended up facing a huge target of 207, which despite a good show by the top-order, they failed to reach in the end. The batting line-up consists of in-form batsmen like Bharath Shankar, Nilesh Subramanian, Indrajith, Shahrukh Khan and Srinaath; they can try to steady the innings in the upcoming contest. Overall, the bowlers and batsmen can do well and can try to challenge the Patriots in all departments of the game on Sunday.
They successfully chased down 142 runs against Veerans in the last game thanks to a splendid show by Mukund, who scored an unbeaten 47, Gandhi, who scored a blitzing 43 from 29 as an opener, and Sundar who contribute with a well-made 31. Earlier, the experienced pacer Lakshmipathy Balaji registered a superb 5-18 to demolish the opposition and he is a vital asset for the team. Sundar and Moorthi combined well to take 3 wickets between them and they can prove to be a strong unit.
However, against Dragons in the previous match, they almost defended a low total of 120 runs, losing the match in the one-over eliminator after the scores were tied. Spinner Aushik Srinivas took 2-21 while speedsters Vishal and Akash Sumara took a wicket each and stifled the opponents. Sundar uses his skill tactics to put up a disciplined spell and along with Srinivas can pressurise Warriors here too.
They have done well till now and can improve their standing on the table by executing the game plan to perfection; while the bowling unit has in-form spinners and pacers, the batting line-up also can try to build a solid foundation at the top whether batting first or during the chase.
Although the two teams are near the bottom of the table, they have good resources to keep their winning momentum going; the contest could be evenly fought and the result could go either way but we feel that Patriots have the extra punch in their bowling to emerge victorious here on Sunday.
