SAC vs TSC Match Prediction - Oct 20, 2022

The Marsh One-Day Cup continues to roll out the games and the Aussie states have yet another cricket tournament for bragging rights.

It can be confusing with so much cricket going on, as Tasmania recently faced South Australia for the Marsh Sheffield Shield in a Test match format. However, now we’re focusing on the ODI format for this current matchup.

The Tasmanian Tigers are riding high after winning their first two games, while the South Australian Redbacks have split both games with a win and a loss.

The last time these two teams played each other resulted in an easy victory for Tasmania, however, this was back in September and the momentum could shift yet again.

SAC vs TSC Team Previews

South Australia Redbacks

Although Tasmania does appear to be the favourite in this particular contest, there are still many reasons to believe that the Redbacks can pull off the victory. For one, they’re playing at Adelaide Oval and in conditions suited to the Redbacks.

Plus, before losing to Tasmania, SA had a huge win against Queensland thanks to strong batting from Travis Head (47 runs), Nathan McAndrew (55 runs), and Benjamin Manenti (60 runs). If Alex Carey is playing, too, then you know he’s capable of hitting massive totals, as evidenced by his 59 runs from 45 deliveries in the loss to Tasmania.

A great partnership from Carey and Head would be just enough to get the Redbacks a decent total of ideally 230 and make life tough for Tasmania.

In terms of the ball, there’s a lot to like about Benjamin Manenti and his off spin bowling, as he’s already knocked up four wickets for 81 runs (ER: 4.26) in the Cup so far.

Henry Thornton isn’t far behind Manenti in the pecking order, as both will need a fantastic 10 overs to keep Tasmania well below 200 in this ODI game.

Tasmania

Does Tasmania have a fault right now? It’s hard to find one, as here’s a squad that is firing on all cylinders thanks to the balanced attack.

They have the top two run scorers in the Cup as of now, being Caleb Jewell (169 runs) and Ben McDermott (141), plus captain Jordan Silk always looks like he’s ready to hit a century when in the right groove.

If that wasn’t enough, Tassie also has the top two bowlers, being Tom Rogers (8 wickets and 64 runs given up) and Riley Meredith (7/72). These star bowlers don’t just have the talent, but now the fear factor against opposing batters that helps them before a ball is even bowled.

It could be that batter Tim Ward will be saved for the Sheffield Shield, but there’s still enough batting talent to get the job done in Adelaide. As of now, the Tigers are the team to beat and though it can be done, it won’t be easy.

SAC vs TSC Toss Prediction

In the ODI format, the team winning the toss will want to bat first in order to maximise the pitch’s lack of bounce.

Pitch and Conditions

The Adelaide Oval pitch is quite often flat, which means it’s a haven for batters getting into their stride and finding the right spots. In test matches, the pitch opens up for bowlers, but as this is an ODI, expect big totals from both teams at the end of the day.

SAC vs TSC Betting Tips

Will the Redbacks be the first team to make it difficult for the Tigers? It’s no walk in the park, but it will all come down to Head and Carey to put up giant numbers and really give Tasmania a challenge.

The SA bowlers, too, must continue to put Tassie on the back foot as soon as the match starts, as you know that a comfortable Jewell or McDermott is just about the last duo you want at the crease.

The Redbacks have a solid squad and the right pieces to beat Tasmania, so we think it can be done.

Bet on South Australia to win.
