SAC vs VAC Match Prediction - Feb 25, 2023

This upcoming Marsh Cup game between South Australia and Victoria will be one of the closest we’ve had for a while. Both teams are on 13 points with exactly three wins and three losses, yet Victoria is second on the ladder above SA due to the Net Run Rate.

The big news is the return of batter Glenn Maxwell for Victoria after his recovery from a leg injury.

SAC vs VAC Team Previews

South Australia Redbacks

South Australia have had a bit of a slump in the Marsh Cup with two straight defeats and also played badly in the loss to Victoria in the Sheffield Shield.

Opening batters, Henry Hunt and Jake Carder, have been playing rather poorly in their last two games and failed to score over 30 runs. Nathan McSweeney has been batting great with 282 total runs in the Marsh Cup, but we’re not sure he has enough help from his teammates in this matchup.

SA’s bowlers have been decent lately, particularly Henry Thornton (11 total wickets) and Wes Agar, so you can be sure that Victoria will be extra careful when these two are bowling. However, experienced batters like Short and Harris on the Victorian team should be able to handle anything.

Victoria

Victoria has the momentum going into this match, as they not only defeated Queensland in their last Marsh Cup game, but also crushed South Australia by 177 runs in the Sheffield Shield a few days ago.

The return of Maxwell is great news for Victoria, but we don’t expect him to make a big impact immediately. Maxwell is coming off a bad injury and made only five runs in his return to the Sheffield Shield. Plus, the Vics are already full of great batters at the moment.

The three batters to watch are undoubtedly Matthew Short, Marcus Harris, and Will Sutherland. Short has been the standout batsman for the squad, as he scored 108* in the win versus QL, as well as 70 & 119 in the victory over South Australia in the SS. Harris’ 78* against QL is also a fantastic sign and he can certainly help Short in a solid partnership.

Not just useful with the bat, Sutherland has been a great bowler for Victoria with nine wickets this season and an average of 30.88. He’s been superb at troubling opposing batters with quick and nimble deliveries, but it’s also worth mentioning the emergence of spinner Fergus O’Neill to the side.

O’Neill was sublime against QL with a 4/22 performance and it appears he’ll continue this great form heading into the Marsh Cup match.

Pitch and Conditions

Batters love the Adelaide Oval because of the slightly lower bounce and fast outfield. It’s one of the most high-scoring pitches in Australia and ODI games often reach figures of 300 runs.

SAC vs VAC Betting Tips

Victoria has won the last two matchups against SA, and it looks like this streak will continue. The Mostbet odds for Victoria to win aren’t so much lower than South Australia, so choosing the Vics makes sense as a surer bet. We trust Victoria far more at the moment and they have fantastic players like Short, Harris, Sutherland, and O’Neill to get the victory.

Bet on Victoria to win.
