Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka played quite well in the second ODI. They bowled their entire quota of overs and ended up keeping Afghanistan to just 228. That would have been a total that Sri Lanka would have been happy to chase down but the rain prevented them from a potential series-equalling win.
Kasun Rajitha picked up three wickets and was the best bowler on the night. Wanindu Hasaranga, M Theekshana, Lahiru Kumara, and Dhananjaya de Silva all bowled very well. This is the same attack that will take the field for the third match.
We think early wickets are the key to beating Afghanistan and this is why Kasun Rajitha will play a very important role once more. How he goes could very well dictate how the bowlers behind him fare. Hasaranga is the one bowler to watch out of course.
Sri Lanka's batting has been quite good in recent times but what we saw in the first match was a bit troubling. Pathum Nissanka was the only bowler that was able to get on top of the Afghan bowlers. With Dasun Shanaka in poor form and Charith Asalanka struggling for runs, a lot of pressure will be on Dhananjaya de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal.

Afghanistan
Afghanistan has improved tremendously as an ODI team. It has already qualified for the World Cup 2023 and is leading the series 1-0. Afghanistan always had a robust spin-bowling lineup and still does. Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi are a spin trio that anyone would love to have.
Now, Afghanistan has added some quality batters to its lineup and some very promising fast bowlers.
That means teams can no longer just sit on the spinners and take advantage of the rest of the bowling. Yusuf Ahmadzai and Fazalhaz Farooqi are both excellent fast bowlers that can trouble the Sri Lankan top order.
Among the batting lineup, Ibrahim Zadran has emerged as the perfect foil for the aggressive Rahmanullah Gurbaz. The pair of them will be hoping to give Afghanistan another great start and allow Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi, and Najibullah Zadran to build on that.
The lower order is also pretty good and the team has a lot of depth.

The weather forecast for Pallekele is quite good so far. There is not too much rain predicted and it looks while we should be able to get a full game in. The pitch at Pallekele was very flat for batting in the first match and just slowed up a little in the second. We think something similar to the second match is likely for this one and so a score of around 260 should be seen as being quite competitive.
