Sri Lanka gave the perfect farewell to Lasith Malinga and ensured that the great man ended his ODI career with a victory. Bangladesh now has no option but to try and win otherwise they will lose the series.
Sri Lanka’s batsmen won them the match in the first game and it was clear that a Bangladesh team without Shakib is going to struggle. Can the tourists make the necessary adjustments to stay alive in this series?
Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh 2nd ODI 2019 is going to be played at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
Sri Lanka made a change to its batting order and promoted Avishka Fernando to the top. It is not a change that we dislike but the success of it remains to be seen. Fernando is a free-flowing batsman and giving him the opportunity to have the maximum impact on the game is a good idea.
Kusal Perera continued his brilliant format number three and scored a fantastic century. His 111 was the reason why Sri Lanka was able to reach a 300 plus score with ease.
There were good contributions from Kusal Mendis, Angelo Matthews, Dimuth Karunaratne, and even Dhananjaya de Silva.
With all the major batsmen in form, the Sri Lankan batting is a lot stronger than Bangladesh and they can be expected to continue scoring runs freely.
Sri Lanka’s bowling was excellent as well. Lasith Malinga took three wickets to end his career and his absence in the second match is going to be felt. Isuru Udana is in the squad and did not get a game in the first match. We think he may be picked to replace Lasith Malinga in the second match.
Nuwan Pradeep, Lahiru Kumara, and Thisara Perera did a decent job but they were helped by having a large score to defend. The bowling is not the strongest and Bangladesh definitely has a chance to exploit some of the Sri Lankan weaknesses.
Avishka Fernando, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis , Angelo Mathews, HDRL Thirimanne, Dhananjaya de Silva, Akila Dananjaya, Isuru Udana, Nuwan Pradeep, Lahiru Kumara.
The loss of Shakib Al Hasan is enough to destabilize any team and Bangladesh is no different. They are without their best batsman and their most reliable bowler in this series and the pressure has to be shared with the other senior players.
Tamim Iqbal continued to be in poor form while Soumya Sarkar’s inability to convert starts should be troubling the selectors. We wonder how long it is going to be before Liton Das is going to get a prolonged run at the top of the order alongside Tamim?
Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman scored the bulk of the runs and there was some semblance of hope when they were batting together but there was always too much to do.
Bangladesh’s batsmen need to show more application and avoid throwing away their wickets otherwise they are going to struggle in this series.
The Bangladeshi bowling was similarly disappointing in the first match. Mustafizur Rahman went for 75 runs in his 10 overs and even though he took two wickets he was unable to exert any control on the proceedings.
Shaiful Islam took three wickets but none of the regular bowlers were able to keep a check on the scoring rate.
In fact, it was Soumya Sarkar who bowled his five overs for an economy rate of 3.40 to reduce the total score otherwise Sri Lanka may have reached 350 with ease.
Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Sabbir Rahman, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehedy Hasan, Shafiul Islam, Taijul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman.

Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh 2nd ODI is going to be played at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The weather forecast for Colombo id much better for this match. We were lucky to get a full match in last time around and we should hopefully be able to enjoy another uninterrupted match on Sunday as well.
The pitch at Colombo is excellent for batting. There is very little help in it for the bowlers. Only the spinners have some chance of causing trouble to the batsmen otherwise changes of pace and cutters are the way to go.
A score of around 280 can be considered par.
Sri Lanka is a confident team right now with its batting in full form. Bangladesh without Shakib Al Hasan is a rung below where it needs to be. We think Sri Lanka is going to wrap up the series in this match itself.
Bet on Sri Lanka to win.
