SL vs NL Match Prediction - Oct 20, 2022

Sri Lanka will face the Netherlands in a crucial Group A match in the T20 Cricket World Cup 2022.

On most cricket betting sites, Sri Lanka starts this match as the overwhelming favorite to win. But going by the past couple of matches in this tournament, an upset always seems to be aroudn the corner.

SL vs NL Team Previews

Sri Lanka

The reigning Asia Cup champions started their campaign most disastrously, losing to the minnows Namibia by 55 runs. The Sri Lankan bowlers were unable to find the right rhythm, and the batsmen were clueless on a pitch that was favorable for batting throughout the game.

The Lankans have managed to keep themselves in the hunt for a spot in the Super 12 by beating UAE in its last encounter but face a do-or-die situation against the Netherlands.

Pathum Nissanka has been the pick of the batsmen from the Sri Lankan line-up, and he once again stamped his authority by a quick 72 at the top of the order. Dasun Shanaka and Kusal Mendis, both of whom have failed to get big scores, will need to start performing if Sri Lanka wants to replicate its Asia Cup success.

On the bowling front, Sri Lanka will be sorely missing the left-arm Dilshan Madushanka. Nevertheless, he has been replaced by another left-arm Binura Fernando, but he lacks experience on the international stage. However, the 3 key bowlers for Sri Lanka, Theekshana, Chameera, and Madushan, all seem to be getting into a good rhythm, which is a positive.

There is a slight injury concern regarding Dushmanth Chameera but no news has been offocially released yet.<br />

Sri Lanka Playing 11

Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka, Wanidu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Lahiru Kumara, Binura Fernando.

Netherlands

Netherlands has been the surprise revelation of this edition and has gone on to win both its opening matches in Group A. After edging out the UAE in a close encounter in the opening match, the Netherlands kept their nerve in the second match too, chasing down Namibia's total of 121 with 3 deliveries to spare.

With 2 wins in 2 games, the Netherlands is locked in a 3 way battle with Sri Lanka and Namibia to make it to the Super 12.

All-rounder Bas de Leede has been indispensable for coach Ryan Campbell and has been the top scorer in T20s for the Netherlands this year. He has already scored a total of 44 runs, picked up 5 wickets in the two matches, and is likely to be a thorn in Sri Lanka’s journey to victory.

Other key players in the squad include Max ODowd and Tom Cooper, both of whom are capable of scoring quick runs. Van Beek did not play the last match but can be quite effective on the bouncy pitch at Geelong.

SL vs NL Toss Prediction

The Simonds Stadium hasn’t hosted many international matches. But the limited data shows that it might be a bit more difficult to bat in the second half of the game. We expect the winner of the toss to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

The conditions are likely to remain overcast in Geelong on Thursday, but there is very less chance of rain. The pitch is likely to aid the bowlers, especially during the first innings, with some movement off the seam. A total of more than 150 will be pretty difficult to chase.

SL vs NL Betting Tips

While T20 matches are becoming extremely difficult to predict, we are backing Sri Lanka to win this one. The loss against Namibia can be viewed as an aberration. The squad has plenty of match-winners to see them through. However, Sri Lanka will need to win by a big margin if they want to keep their Super 12 hopes alive.

Bet on Sri Lanka to win.

We have not seen too many matches where a number of sixes were hit so far. The Netherlands, in particular, has not been very good at hitting sixes with only four in the entire tournament so far. This bet looks like a great betting opportunity to us at the moment.
