SL vs WI Match Prediction - Mar 06, 2020

West Indies flexed its muscles in the opening T20 against Sri Lanka and showed just why it is regarded as the most dangerous team in this format. It now cannot lose this two-match series. Sri Lanka was outplayed in the previous match and would know that it needs to do a lot of work ahead of the T20 World Cup. The difference between the two sides is not too much in these conditions but the West Indians are a lot more adaptable as a T20 side.

Can Sri Lanka strike back and equalize the series in this match?

Sri Lanka vs West Indies 2nd T20 is going to be played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele on the 6th of March 2020.

SL vs WI Team Previews

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka was left shell-shocked as it bore the full force of the West Indian power in the previous match. Its bowlers struggled for answers and the batsmen were not able to respond in a similar manner. It appears as if the Sri Lanka bowling attack is planning to use Thisara Perera and Angelo Matthews to combine together for one bowler.

That is a risky move and leaves four overs of medium-pace bowling perfect to be attacked by the West Indians.

Lasith Malinga looked in good form and was getting his yorkers on point as well. He may not have got the wickets to show for that but there is a good chance that he will be able to change that around in this match. It is interesting to see Malinga become less of a threat in the death overs and that may be because of his reduced pace.

Lakshan Sandakan and Wanindu Hasaranga did not have a good night in the previous match. Both the spinners were taken to the cleaners and neither one of them looked like being capable of stopping the runs.

Sri Lanka may have to think about playing them both together on grounds that are a bit on the shorter side.

The current composition of the Sri Lankan team makes it a very strong batting side. Avishka Fernando is in great batting form, Kusal Perera has been in the runs, while Kusal Perera, Angelow Matthews, Dasun Shanaka, and Thisara Perera add a lot of power to the team as well.

On a good day, this batting lineup is capable of matching the West Indies or getting the better of them.

West Indies

It is such a pleasure to see the West Indian team play with all of its best players available because that has not been the case for too long now. Players like Lendl Simmons, Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, Shimron Hetmyer, Dwayne Bravo, and others that have dominated the T20 landscape around the world are finally turning out for the West Indies.

It can be a problem playing with superstars because all of them expect to be given the prime positions. Kieron Pollard managed that pretty well in the previous match and actually promoted his power-hitters up the order.

That is the way that West Indies must think in the coming matches as well.

They have so much power in the side that they can afford to go after the bowling from the very start. If there are a few early wickets then the side can take a step back otherwise aggression should be the only policy.

We are less convinced about the West Indian bowling, though.

Oshane Thomas picked up five wickets with short-pitched bowling but that is not going to happen too often. He could easily have gone for a lot of runs and made it difficult for the West Indies to defend that total.

Sheldon Cottrell is very good up the start while Dwayne Bravo provides some much-needed experience at the death. Andre Russell is not very dependable in terms of fitness and Rovman Powell can be expensive also.

Fabian Allen in the team is the sole spinner and that can be a bit of a problem as well.

West Indies would love to have Sunil Narine in the side but there is no timeline to his return just yet.

SL vs WI Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first because of the threat of rain around.

Pitch and Conditions

A lot of rain is predicted in Pallekele on the day of the match. The forecast does improve a little as the time of the start arrives and so we must hope for some luck to be on our side otherwise it may be difficult to get any play at all.

A delayed start and some overs lost may be the likely way forward.

SL vs WI Betting Tips

We think Sri Lanka is going to struggle to be able to beat the West Indies in this match. The return of Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo to the West Indian side tilts the balance in the visitors favor. The West Indians have more power at their disposal and a bowling attack that is just about the same as what Sri Lanka has. If anything, the West Indians have a lot more all-round talent and experience to call upon.

Bet on the West Indies to win.
