SLK vs GAW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Aug 25, 2018

The St. Lucia Stars went from winning their first match after fifteen defeats to being absolutely wiped out in their next against the St. Kitts Nevis and Patriots. The Stars now have to hope for some level of consistency from their side as they take on the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Three wins from their four matches have put the Guyana Amazon Warriors on top of the table right now. They have been in very good form and found a nice balance to their side. The Warriors would be hoping to inflict a little more pain on the Stars in this match.

St Lucia Kings

69. That is the total number of runs that the Stars were able to score in their last match. It was an unbelievably poor batting performance from a side that had scored 200 plus in its previous two matches.

Now, the Stars have a choice of recalibrating their approach a little or continuing to go hard from the outset. We have a feeling that they are going to choose the latter.

The St. Lucia Stars have been ultra-aggressive with the bat this season, perhaps, believing that they have the resources to do so without worry. While the last match showed the perils of such an approach, this aggressive batting has also been the reason why the Stars have been competitive this season.

Five losses from its six matches may not sound like being competitive but a couple of very close losses have skewed those figures away from the Stars.

Andre Fletcher has been opening the batting with David Warner and both of them have tended to go hard at the bowling. Fletcher does not seem to any other way of batting but Warner can be expected to take things a bit more measured. The pitch in the last game was not conducive to the kind of stroke play the Stars were trying and that should have been identified in the middle by the players.

Fletcher, Warner, Cornwall, and Pollard form an explosive top-4. Of these four, Warner and Pollard have to be the ones scoring runs consistently because the other two are either going to brilliant or bust. There is nothing in between.

Darren Sammy, Qais Ahmed and the rest of the batting has done precious little up until now. They may swing their bats with a lot of intent but how much that comes off is again largely down to luck.

So the Stars have an unreliable batting lineup but what about their bowling?

Qais Ahmed has been good as the spinner, Smith, and Hodge have been predictable, and it is only the pair of Mitchell McClenaghan and McCoy that have asked questions of the opposition batsmen.

The Stars are a dangerous team but they are struggling to put together any sort of consistency in their cricket right now. That can be dangerous for the Warriors because they don’t know what to expect.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The surprise team of the Caribbean Premier League 2018 has been the Guyana Amazon Warriors for sure. They are a good unit, no doubt, but we did not see them winning so consistently against some of the other side’s this season.

The biggest reason of success for the Warriors has been their ability to find a player to rally around in each match. Shimron Hetmeyer was that player in the last game as he smashed a hundred against the Jamaica Tallawahs.

It was an incredible performance that will put Hetmeyer in a very positive frame of mind going forward as well. Shoaib Malik also scored a fifty in the same game to get into some good form as well.

With a batting lineup that also has the likes of Walton, Ronchi, and Jason Mohammad in it, the Guyana Amazon Warriors are not going to be short of runs too often. This side, though, risks being out-powered by the St. Lucia Stars, particularly if one of their big guns get going.

The Warriors have an excellent spin bowling department, something that we believe could be very handy in St. Lucia. Imran Tahir, Chris Green, and Devendra Bishoo are all quality spinners while also being very different from one another.

Tahir will be the biggest threat to the Stars and we believe he could run through the side on a helpful surface.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors are a good side with in-form players. If their batting can continue to hold up then they will be contenders this year for sure.

Pitch and Conditions

The Darren Sammy Stadium has thrown up surfaces that have been slow to begin with and are now becoming very difficult for the batsmen to score on freely. We think the spinners will play the major role in this match and that the surface will be slow, low, and a nightmare with the older ball.

Plenty of sixes will be hit because of the small boundaries and predominance of spin but hitting the boundaries and rotating the strike is not going to be easy.

A score of around 170 should be considered a very good one on this surface.

SLK vs GAW Betting Tips

The Guyana Amazon Warriors won pretty easily against the St. Lucia Stars when they played them earlier in this tournament. They have now won the last three matches against the Stars in succession. The ST. Lucia Stars are a dangerous side filled with power hitters but we feel they may not thrive on the kind of surfaces that the stadium is offering.

Back the Guyana Amazon Warriors to win.
