Contrary to all expectations, St Lucia Zouks are flying high in the CPL 2020. They have defied all odds to occupy a solid position on the points table and now have three back to back wins to their name. Up next in the tournament are the Zouks set to face their biggest challenge so far - the match against the Knight Riders.
Trinbago Knight Riders are leading the points table and are yet to be beaten. The Knight Riders have had everything going for them so far and have an immaculately balanced side. St Lucia Zouks and Trinbago Knight Riders have momentum behind them, which could play a crucial role in the shortest format of the game. Placed at the top two spots respectively, the Knight Riders and the Zouks will fight for the top spot in this encounter. The match is to be played at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on 26th August.
Defying all odds, St Lucia Zouks has surprised one and all with its performance. Daren Sammy has been proactive with his leadership and that has rubbed off on the other players in the team. After getting off to a dreadful start, the Zouks bounced back beautifully and now has three wins to its name. Placed at the second spot on the ladder, the Zouks will be looking to strengthen its position with a win in this upcoming contest as well. It is not going to be easy, though.
While most teams in the competition are being driven by one or a couple of players, its all been team-work for the Zouks thus far. The likes of Andre Fletcher, Mohammad Nabi, and Roston Chase have all played their respective roles to perfection. Mohammad Nabi, in particular, has been brilliant with both bat and ball and is expected to play a vital role in the upcoming contest as well.
Another contrasting positive for the Zouks has been the performance of their quick bowlers. While the other sides in the tournament have struggled with their respective fast bowlers, Scott Kuggeleijn has been brilliant for the Zouks. He is currently at the top of the bowling charts with ten wickets to his name. He was wreaker-in-chief in the previous match as well as he made an all-important breakthrough to end a 56-run partnership that looked to be thriving at that time. Consequently, Guyana Amazon Warriors lost the plot after that dismissal of Keemo Paul as St Lucia Zouks emerged on top.
Overall, the Zouks does not have a player that can take the game away in a matter of minutes. However, they have a pretty solid team that is being led by an experienced campaigner. Almost all of their players have responded in affirmative when asked to do the job and that has been the reason for their impressive run in the tournament. Their bowling has been extraordinary and their batting has done a tremendous job as well. If they can continue to play the way they have done so far, the Knight Riders will certainly have their work cut out.

Trinbago Knight Riders is the only team in the tournament so far to have a perfect win record, having scored massive wins over Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, and Barbados Tridents. They started off in a spectacular fashion and have only improved ever since.
With Sunil Narine doing the bulk of the damage in their first two wins, Trinbago Knight Riders' appeared to be a bit over-reliant on Narine at the top. It doesn't appear to be the case anymore. Their win over Barbados Tridents had everything in it and exhibited the kind of balance the Knight Riders have.
Batting first on a slow surface, Trinbago Knight Riders struggled to get off the blocks as both their batsmen perished without contributing much. Consequently, the likes of Darren Bravo and Colin Munro were left to do a repair job, something which had been alien up until then for the Knight Riders' middle-order. Not only did Colin Munro and Darren Bravo completed the repair-up job to perfection, but they also went a step ahead an launched a counter-attack on the Tridents' bowling. Colin Munro's dismissal brought in Kieren Pollard at the crease and that proved to be a blessing in disguise for the Knight Riders. He hammered 41* of just 17 deliveries and was involved in a 98-run stand for the fourth wicket. Those runs came in a little over seven overs. Darren Bravo returned with an unbeaten 54.
In the second innings, however, the Knight Riders didn't get off to the kind of start they wanted to and were put under the pump by Johnson Charles. Just when things were getting difficult to control for the Knight Riders, Fawad Ahmed castled Johnson Charles as the Knight Riders clawed their way back. Sunil Narine and Fawad Ahmed exhibited terrific spin bowling thereafter as they conceded 31 runs off their seven overs combined. Narine and Ahmed both returned with a wicket each to their name.
Although the Knight Riders eventually won the match by a reasonable margin, there are a few wrinkles they'd like to iron out going forward in the tournament. Their quick bowlers have been pretty inconsistent in the tournament. Dwayne Bravo and Jayden Seales were smashed to all parts of the ground by the Tridents' batsmen. Khary Pierre and Ali Khan, however, did well and a lot will rest on their shoulders in the upcoming match as well.
Overall, barring a few minor blemishes, the Knight Riders have produced a series of fantastic performances in the competition thus far. They have a batting lineup that goes deep and a bowling attack that is as versatile as any. They were the title favorites, to begin with and they have lived up to the tag. Beating them is going to be a steep task even for the in-form St Lucia Zouks.

With dew factor no longer at play and the surface likely to get slower and lower, the equation seems simple - win the toss and bat first. There are negligible chances of rain and chasing high totals could prove to be a colossal task. Considering that, the captains of both sides would want to keep the things easy and, are, therefore, expected to bat first after winning the toss.

As the match is being played on a relatively fresher surface, the strokeplay will be a bit easier as compared to that in Brian Lara Cricket Academy. The overhead conditions are expected to be excellent for Cricket as a partly cloudy sky and a cool breeze will greet the players. This is an all-day match and the dew factor will be absent, removing the advantage of batting second. We expect the surface to get slower with time and spinners, are, therefore, likely to thrive here. A total of around 160 should be a par score here.

This is a high-stakes encounter and adrenaline will be rushing through the players of both sides. The ability to keep calm could be of significant importance and experience, therefore, is likely to play a vital role. Considering that, the performances of the two sides, as well as the on-paper combinations of the two sides, Trinbago Knights Riders appear ahead. They have experience oozing through their lineup and are coming off superb performances. Most of their players have years of experience of playing at this venue as well. Placing your money on a Trinbago Knight Riders' win should be the way to go in this high-voltage encounter.
While T20 is the shortest format of the match, there is plenty of time to first settle and then go for the big hits. This is a high-pressure game and with both opening pairs not in prime form, we can expect a dot ball as the first ball of the innings. The presence of hard-hitting batsmen at the top is providing us with great returns and that is why this could prove to be a great punt.
The most common method of dismissal in T20 is caught. In addition to that, both Cornwall and Lendl Simmons play straight and are fairly safe between the wickets and that someone makes caught an even more probable method of dismissal in the upcoming match. This is definitely a bet for one looking for good returns for minimal risk.
While Sunil Narine has done well in the tournament so far, his record against the express bowlers hasn't been as good. With Scott Kuggeleijn available for St Lucia, we can expect Narine to be a bit cautious in the early overs. On the other hand, Andre Fletcher and Rakheem Cornwall are expected to get going for the first over. Therefore, St Lucia Zouks have high chances to be ahead at the end of the powerplay.
